Hello,
I have been reading as much as I could here and elsewhere before bothering people with this, but unfortunately I have come to the more expensive probabilities, so I thought I would ask for some help.
This is a second car, 2003 reg C270CDI, W203, and gets driven rarely, only my wife, so I have no idea when the problem happened, but when I press the indicator stalk end (all the way, beyond the resistance point), nothing happens.
After reading lots of (sometimes conflicting) suggestions, here is where I am:
- Opened indicator stalk. Nothing seemed to be wrong with contacts, but cleaned nonetheless and re-assembled.
- Headlight washer working fine. This would have been relevant if, as some people had written elsewhere, there was only one pump, but there are two.
- Opened up the footwell for access to the pump and disconnected it. Two things: a) the pump itself tests ok for continuity, and b) there is no voltage on the connection to the pump.
As people know, it is not a matter of fuse, as against Washer Pump, the fuse table says "Electronic", whatever the hell that means. I have been reading some thoroughly inconclusive musings about relays, SAM module, etc. but have no idea what one does from here, nor what this SAM module is. Someone (in the US) had suggested for a vaguely similar problem to "change the SAM" but this is already a lot more expensive, hence my appeal for help.
Lastly, unrelated to this, the SRS light came up a week ago and as need to take the car for an MOT, a called a guy recommended by the MOT people. He came, plugged in a mobile STAR diagnostics laptop, opened up the passenger side trim, replaced one plastic connector with soldering and the light was gone (ridiculous, but there you have it, £60). I asked him to let me know what other faults he was seeing, but he said there was nothing else.
Now, I had already mentioned the pump problem and he was explaining (wrongly,as it happens) how complicated it is to get access to the pump to check it, but he definitely did not see, or at least did not say he was seeing anything in that SAM module or anywhere else, that had to do with the pump.
Would someone please offer any suggestions as to what else might be wrong that stops the pump from working, and how I could check and replace it?
What is the meaning of "electronic" in the fuse table? Is there a relay or something else that is controlling this thing that can be replaced?
Many thanks,
christev
