W204 C Class Sat Nav COMAND update

Any update on this thread, as I would interested in an update DVD. Any news on availability and cost??

Any news on the update disc. Also, how do you find out if you already have the most up to date version?

Press these buttons in the same time and hold them until new menu pops up:

It is called the engeneers menu and you can see all the info about your navi and sound system, but be carefull...do not change something if you have no idea what it is...from that menu you can also update software but you will need cd with updates first :D And just to say that you can buy cheap 30$ camera, upgrade it in the trunk and turn it on in that menu...just wire it first,it will start every time you put in reverse :) (If you don't already have rev cam...) I'm a little off-topic here... bye :)

One tiny point never usually mentioned is that COMAND has free TMC so you get the ability to have dynamic en-route updates to automatically give you a new route to avoid hold-ups. I think updates are every 3 minutes.
As far as I know, with all other SATNAV systems its an option you have to pay for.
I think TOM-TOM charge in the region of £70 a year for this feature.

But I might be wrong.

Apples and pears I'm afraid.

The Merc free TMC is the same as the subscription free TMC that pretty much all the non-integrated machines have as a pay-for-the-receiver-when-you-buy-the-box option.

The Tom-Tom subscription version uses a different data source and is a lot more accurate (based on my experience running both in the same car).

Both are still miles away from being 100% reliable, accurate and up to date.....

We've argued this before but I haven't seen any satnav that would have free map updates (excluding perhaps a limited period, paid with the purchase).

Nokia maps on a phone would have free map updates, all over the world but I don't consider even that free because in their case you have to pay for the navigation licence.

But it is true that one can get a simple TomTom device including maps with the price of an MB map update. Perhaps MB assumes that each buyer anyway shares the DVD with a couple of others. This is why I would prefer the "locked" solution. It would still not be equally cheap as for those devices that sell a lot more.

Garmin are now offering updates for life for a fee of £99.99, seeing as each yearly update is £60 its very good value for money and a lot cheaper than the command updates.

Now Navigon offer a european based app for the iphoine 3g and 3g3 that costs £80 or £53 for the UK only.

so have to wait and see how much the map updates are. but it does offer lane assist and 3d motorway views and real sign posts. they have beaten tomtom to the app store by months.

Pity you can't get the Iphone to play and display through comand..

The Navigon App has no 7 digit postcode input and is a whopping 1.6GB worth of an app! I have been in regular contact with Tom tom over their app and its due imminently so even though I am a die hard comand fan I will be getting the TT App just so as I can have a decent hand help navigation system.

Does anyone know what the current state of play on updates is ? What is the latest and when is the next due ? Is the update process something that someone with pretty basic tech skills should be contemplating ??

.....

Indeed - I bought my TomTom One XL with TMC in-the-box and it has TMC service for life. Had I bought a unit without the bundled built-in TMC receiver I would have to pay for the service annually.

I don't like the Tom-Tom TMC much though - it works well, but it requires a rather long aerial cable to be attached to the windscreen with little vacuum suction caps, which in addition to the 12V charger cable makes the cabin look very messy... this is definitely one advantage of having the TMC on command, i.e. you don't have to fiddle with aerial cables.

Quick question I have a 2009 C220 the one with the hard drive and full pop up screen. Just wondering is there a Satnav /software update for my car and how much would it cost.

Firmware updates on the latest Comand systems can only be done with someone with a genuine STAR system so a main dealer or someone like comand.co.uk. As your cars past the 3yrs manufacturers warranty the main dealer will charge, you will have to ask them how much.

Alfie / Richard from comand.co.uk, based in Lightwater, Surrey would be able to do it for you too.

BTW a firmware update wont update your maps. You need to buy map updates.

You can update separately the firmware and the maps, it´s possible to update only the maps it´ll run well, but the last firmware adds new feactures to your screen, like the compass...
The price for the maps, look at "Ebay"

Hi and thanks for the feedback. Does anyone have a update for the maps etc and how much? Thanks
