W205 Ordered Today

FWD, diesel lag and CVT transmission, hmmm? Combine that with Audis remarkable way it manages to squat at the back when pulling away (lifting weight off the front axle) makes for a very scary exit on busy roundabouts!!

Absolutely spot on gIzzE. It has proved to be a useless tool for a quick getaway and I've had a few flashes when pulling out of junctions especially in the wet.

When it gets going the 3 litre V6 is smooth and pulls well but it will be beaten in every department by the new 250 I've got arriving soon :D

You can get quattro as well, and they need to be.

I think many take RWD for granted, and it is not until you get into a car with a bit of ooomph and FWD that is really shows itself up.

Some do get it right though, but VAG tend to fail miserably, Audi in particular.

I'm not knocking Audi, and I love the new A6, but by the time you are in a 245bhp Quattro version they are getting very expensive, and the fact they make a FWD 3.0tdi as well means the Quattro is not really worth that much more come resale so the depreciation on the Quattro can be pretty excessive.

I was leant a 2.0tdi A6 Avant and loved it, apart from the issues mentioned above, but the figures for the 3.9tdi Quattro Avant I got were scary. I think my E350cdi at a year old was around £350 a month, a year old 3.0tdi Quattro was nearly £600 a month as it looses so much from new, the Quattro was some £5500 more than the FWD version, but only worth around £1000 more come resale.
With a couple of basic/essential options ticked it was a £55,000 car, but after 3 years and 60k miles they were saying a residual of around £16k.
I was thinking that was way off, but looking around now at cars that age they are probably right.

The spec an E Class to the same spec as that £55000 A6 costs you no more than the £43k list as the E comes with more options as standard anyway.

The Audi is a really nice car, but too expensive imho.

But then the C Class is an odd price, if you spec a new C Class estate to match the standard spec of a new E Class estate, in AMG line spec on both and both 220cdi, the E Class is £37800 and the C Class is £38055.

Drive the deal has the C220 AMG Line auto with premium plus for £32k and the E220 AMG line auto for £30k.

Now, I really like the new C Class, but it really doesn't feel right to pay more for it then the E Class.
However, I think I am going to see if they have a C200 petrol in today that I can test.

So just had confirmation that my new motor will be delivered on Monday 24th November and will have an EK64 reg plate which makes her an Essex girl...

Guaranteed good times with her then ;)

Great news not long. I have had mine for a few weeks and really like it. It is so much better than my w204, you will love it.

Glad to hear it's going well. Anything pleasantly surprising you about it?

I've read pretty much any review I can find in English and watched most of the videos, including the two from the factory visit and the first few miles all in German.

Just keen to get some real observations, rather than run of the mill journalist quotes all comparing to the 3 series.

Am I right in thinking that the Air Play / Car Play from the iPhone isn't available yet? Also I had heard that you can activate a sailing mode when freewheeling by pulling on the right hand paddle, not sure if this is just on the hybrid or petrol models though.

Will definitely be a welcome change and great to get back in to a Merc again

I forgot about this.
I went and tested the C Class along with loads of other, facelift 5 series, 3 series, Evoque, Freelander HSE Lux, Disco, 2010 FFRR, Disco, X3, Q5 and Q3, W166 and the E Class AMG line with prem plus.

I have to say the C Class was right up there, better than the E Class by quite some margin I thought. I got very close to puling the trigger, but decided that I would miss the 4x4, and that is the only reason I didn't.

So enjoy your new toys boys, best Merc without a silly price tag for a very long time imho. :thumb:

Blimey, that's quite a list for test drives. Which 4x4 is topping the list for you at the moment?

Looking very nice!

And a manual? How is it?

Evoque is the one that impressed us most. But too flash for me.

So will either get a Discovery Sport (test drives in the next week or two) or try and grab a late facelifted 2014 Freelander HSE Lux or Dynamic if I can find one with the 825w Meridian Sound System.

I had never even considered a Freelander, but after being impressed with the Evoque and realising it was a bit blingy for our tastes (and crap boot) they got us to try a Freelander, was really impressed with it.
Would I be happy buying a run out model? Maybe if the rice was right.

Certainly look good now imho, and interior was really nice...

Certainly looks the best Freelander I've seen. Would be a tough one against the Disco sport though!

cheers for the pics. I've been kicking myself for keeping with the glossy black finish but it looks good on those photos.

Lovely motor

How is the Manual to drive then? Mine will be a manual, as it's a co. Car, I had no choice so keen to get some feedback from an owner...

Is there a separate Adblue tank in the boot on these diesels?

Just wondering if I've dodged a bullet on this but I fear that I'll be coughing up for the additive a fair bit doing 25-30k miles a year.
