W208 CLK cabrio roof problems!

Roof won't go down, It gets to the stage that the bow (rear window section) goes vertical, metal hatch goes up, bow comes down to horizontal ie not into storage compartment then it stops moving. When the switch is released a metallic noise is heard (like 2 spanners banging together). Any ideas please?

My W124 soft-top frame has just been repaired after a similar incident occurred. I was putting the roof up when I heard a bang and everything stopped at the final phase. I am not too sure as to what went wrong but I think that it was a near side control box/relay switch giving up the ghost. I will find out this Friday when I collect my car and will report back here.

Solved!!

Nearside cable in roof broken at nipple, new one fitted plus replaced other side to make sure!! roof now operates as Mercedes intended..
