Hi Guys,
Our car is a '99 E 300td estate. I recently (3 months ago) changed the thermostat. The thermostat is on the off side bottom of the engine, towards the front. The latest thermostat requires a new housing, which was also fitted. I considered carefully which way round the thermostat should go. As far as I remember it would only go in one way in any event. The car then ran at the normal temp, having previously had a thermostat stuck open.
The car broke down on Good Friday with severe over heating.
After fitting a new fan viscous coupling, which did not cure the problem, the dealer decided to order a new thermostat. After fitting it he said that the one I had fitted was the wrong way round, and that that had affected the diagnostics. As I took care, it ran at normal temp for some months.and am pretty sure it fitted only one way round anyway, I doubt that.
Does anyone know if in fact the new style will only fit one way round? Or am I going gaga?
