Hello,

Need your advice/opinions:

I presently have the W210 E220 CDI (2001) in "reasonably" decent condition done about 53,000 kms. (Honestly, I seriously doubt the authenticity of odo.)

I have been offerred a W211 E200 KOMPRESSOR (2004) with 35,000 kms.

I need your comparisons on both vehicles in terms of reliability (particularly regards the 200K engine when compared to the 220 CDI engine), acceleration, ride quality, mileage etc. to help me decide if I should go for the upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

I have owned the Kompessor engine in a C Class and an SLK and it is a fine engine in a reasonably light car. I tried one in a E Class estate prior to buying an E220 CDI because it just felt a little strained pulling the larger car. The diesel has much more torque so appears much less stressed.
If you drive mostly on your own and unloaded then it certainly is an option to have a car which does not sound like a taxi, but I suspect you will miss the economy and the pull.
Had no issues with any of mine, but they were all quite young.:dk:

E200k is 180bhp so a reasonable peak power vs 150bhp of the E220cdi. However, the diesel trumps it for economy and real world performance where the ingear performance of the 220cdi gives it an edge.

The 211 is a much newer design of car, and although the 210 is still a nice car, the 211 feels inside much more modern. Its also less prone to rust. I don't know anything about fuel prices in India but if they are anything like over here a 220cdi is the only way to go. I'd hold out for a V6 engined petrol E class or a E220cdi as a 211 is a nice step up...

So effectively you are paying a lot more for fuel (which is a major issue here in India) and not really experiencing the added bhp!!!

Honestly, the main attraction for me to go to the W211

Fuel prices are a major concern and added to that, the fact the traffic is horrible resulting in poorer figures. Ideally, I would like to go for a W211 E220 CDI or 280CDI, but the purchase cost limits me.

Will have to take a call on whether to:
1. Settle for W211 E200K which is affordable to purchase, but less performance compared to the W210 E220 CDI at a higher running cost!!!
2. Earn more or wait to afford the W211 E220CDI / E270CDI / E280CDI.
3. Meanwhile continue with the W210 E220 CDI.

Thanks for your user based opionion, really helpful. :thumb:

Mohnish what is the cost of fuel in India?

Lynall

Petrol INR 56.00 / LTR
Diesel INR 36.00 / LTR

1 British Pound = 79INR

You're fuel is a lot cheaper than ours. Massively so.

However running costs are an issue as you said, so I'd not buy the E200k 211 and hold out for a w211 220cdi.

Don't consider the 280cdi, its quite a lot worse on fuel.

Yes, 211 E220CDI would be ideal....unfortunately current budget constraints :(

True, however considering diesel is a very affordable fuel, the 280 CDI would not be too bad, except that it cost almost twice as much as a 220CDI to purchase.

yes but the average monthly wage is about what we spend on a mars bar...

Yep, the standard of living is much higher in the U.K. The cost of fuel in India is about the same as that in the U.K. considering the earnings are as much lower as the price of fuel in the U.K. compared to India.

Ideal situation .... earn in the U.K...buy in India!!!

Not W211 E200K or W210 E220 CDI...

Wierd the way things pan out...

Got an immaculate 2005 facelift W203 C220CDI full service history and only 44K on the odo. :)

Nice, facelifted car very good. I remember this thread well, the C class is a lot lighter and easier on the fuel than the E and still a damn fine motor car. Enjoy.

I have a 211 200 kompressor and also a 210 200 kompressor . The 210 will manage 28 mpg doing short trips and 34 mpg on a long run , the 211 however will only get 23 mpg on short trips and 29 mpg on long runs .
Id advise not getting the 211 , hold out for a 220cdi 211 .

What year? 270cdi is very nice engine:cool:

Really apologize for not replying earlier...

Its MY 2004 genuine 34000kilometres on the odo with full service MB authorized dealer history.

Apologies again.
