Hi Peeps - Not posted for a wee while.

I had the ATF changed on my W210 E300 just two weeks ago. Yesterday driving back from the west end the car seemed to be stuck in i think 3rd gear and wouldnt change up to 4th/5th - i did have drive and could accelerate allbeit with the revs hitting around 4000 rpm plus.

When i switched the engine off and restarted the gears were fine again so long as i stuck around 10-40mph - but as soon as i booted it - again it wouldnt change up.
there was no problem before i got the atf changed - car has don 105K and the old ataf was a bit broon.

any help on this would be apprecaited thanks

When the oil was changed they should have removed the sump. There is a plastic connector for wiring into the box. When I did mine MB told me, when I bought the gasket and filter, that the case for this plug should be replaced because the seal fails and oil get into the loom and damages the wiring. When I did mine at 165k sure enough the seal had failed but the wiring was ok. This job can be done without removinghte sump but is easier with it off. - Possible cause, I think worth investiging the part is about 10 pounds I recall and if the wiring is damaged we I don't know maybe localised repair possible. Sorry for any worrry but this was MB's advice to me.

Thanks guys - tried to post last night but had connection probs.

Piper - car is in the original garage this afternoon - he will check the atf level

KNU7S - i asked what oil he put in - he confirmed it was oredered fro europarts -will try get what spec it is.

peapod - thanks - will maybe mention this to the mechanic when i'm in there later today.

I will provide an update on this later. Starting this morning and on the way to the garage the car was over revving and jerking a bit when the gears were engaging - its all verry unsettling.

Picked the car up from the garage - I not exactly sure what was done but all seems ok now. ATf level was checked ad i think maybe topped up a little. MAF was checked and seems ok too. RESULT!!! - will monitor things over the next few runs.
Theres apparently an oil leak to back of the engine - probably a seal at the oil filter - the engine was shy of 1.5 lt !!! - may this would instigate limp home mode.
