My neighbor had his car in at a local indy today for replacement glow-plugs, apparently five had failed. Anyway, he was filling up with diesel on his way home when he noticed a strong smell of diesel, bit more investigation revealed fuel dripping from the engine bay!
I took off the plastic top cover to reveal the fuel system (right next to the glow plugs) and think we found the source of the leak. At the centre of the common rail there was a white plug that was loose, pushed it back in and stared the engine, all seems okay now. Unfortunately we didn't run it with the covers off before I pushed the plug in so can't be sure if that was the source or not, in any case no more dripping fuel.
Took a picture of the offending item in the hope someone can identify what it is, white plug right in the centre of the picture? Also any idea's why it would be loose, would changing the glow-plugs mean unclipping it or do you think it may have just been disturbed? In any case not the best of service to let a car go out with a fuel leak is it!?!?
Cheers in advance
