Hi, my E320 auto box seems to be playing about. Sometimes when foot is hard down, gear change is very noticable and when slowing down it seems to come to a virtual stop and then drops into first. Had the oil changed about 2 months ago and they re-set the box with their electronic plug in gizmo thingy. Any suggestions as to what might be causing it. Preferably the inexpensive kind.

Normally, the cheap fixes are ATF change/renewal which you have already carried out and reset of the ECU via Star etc.

Try disconnecting battery for a few minutes and see if this makes any difference.

Worse sceanrio I guess would be a new gear box...

Hopefully, someone else shall be able to advise eon the forum.

The first thing to check would be the fluid level, particularly if its been played with recently. Did they fill it up with the expensive MB fluid or some cheaper alternative. The MBstuff is best but is about £8 per litre and you would need anywhere up to 8 litres for a complete refill. Using alternatives appears to be a false economy (if you do a search on here you will find that the advice is stick to the good stuff). However, I can't remember what happens if you use the cheap stuff, but I'm sure someone else can enlighten us!

The box not selecting first gear until virtually at standstil is correct, the harsh changes may be MAF failing.
