Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to replace a xennon 'burner' in a W210 '99? I've just spoke to the dealers and they say the bulb/burner is £80 +VAT (first shock). Then they say if i'm fitting it myself to be careful as the unit has 30,000 volts running through it!! (big shock). Couldn't find a how to in HOW TO so thought I'd ask here.

Cheers.

You want the 3rd shock? You do, don't you? :)

You need to replace them in pairs to ensure identical colour temperature.

That's right you have to change them both as one will look duller than the other. PM me the bulb type, ie D2S or D2R. I usually stock the OSRAM makes and probably have some in stock.

I doubt you will get the shock. MB's normally scare people this way. I think they charge around an hr's labour, but could be more, as they charged 2 hrs labour on my sisters 210 just to change the 12v 6w halogens in the front.

they are fairly simple o replace, just plug and play, dealers will say that for the business, and to avoid liability in case anything goes wrong and you do electricute yourself, very unlikely tho!

I'm all shocked out! Is it as simple as replacing a standard bulb or are there any do's and dont's?
Vips I've pm'd you.

It seems you can get replacement xenon bulbs from hids4u, a friend of mine just bought a kit to replace his BMW halogens for HID alternatives from there and recommended them.

He asked for 6000k rather than the factory 4300k and TBH they do look very good, make my factory xenons look a bit yellow in comparison! :(

Anyway, £49.99 for a single bulb from that site, so not as bad as I thought. It's £69.99 for a pair of the slightly blue-looking ones.

Thanks for the link shude, ordered them online tonight after giving them a call today. Spoke to a knowledgable lady who gave good advice. I've gone for the £69.99 for a pair option as the lady assured me they will look better than the originals I am replacing.
cheers.

I revive this post because is the closest i found with "search" for my question.

I need to change the d2r xenon bulbs on a 2000 W210. But i don't know how to get the bulb out. I pulled that black plastic protective cap, then the electric plug, but i stopped at pulling the bulb out. I didn't noticed some standard mechanism like the one for high beam halogen (some sort of spring that u can squeeze and loose the bulb), instead i see 3 or 4 philips bolts. I must unscrew those bolts or is way simple?

Thank you.

I will see what I can find for you :):):)

Which one did you end up going for then the OEM 4300K bulbs or higher ? Some before after pictures would be great to show the difference.

I went for Hella 4300k (the only OEM xenon temperature color they produce).
Right now i have original bulbs, the light is a little blue and dim, those look cool when i look at the headlamps, but at night i can't see much. As far as i know, with all this regulations here about driving outside town with headlights on, and considering that car is 8 years old, these xenons i have are way past their lifetime (3000 hours).
But if u wonder about 4300k or 5000k+, i chosed 4300k because i drove a friends car with 6000k xenon and the light is very disturbing at night... Colors are not the real ones and after 200km night-drive i felt like i have sand in the eyes.
I can provide before pictures, but after... only when i figure out how to replace those bulbs w/o going to Mercedes (those *******s charge 60 euros to change 2 bulbs  ).

Blimey, if you dont manage to get the bulbs fitted you could try Halfords or a local independent there bound to be a LOT cheaper.

Easier to remove the complete headlamp and do it that way ? - You can remove both headlamps in 10 minutes... I know, I've done it. :O)

oh sh...t - sorry > Doh!
