Can anyone explain why in my old W211 320 CDI 2007 there was a headlight washer button next to the main light switch, but in that cars replacement, a near-identical model only 6 months later off the production line, it's been deleted altogther and only washes every 10 or so uses of the main windscreen washer system. Very odd - was it just the accountants being Mercedesish.....?

It should wash every 5 , when the headlights are on .

This forum was useful at trying to explain it

To me it seems annoying that we can’t choose to wash our own headlights but have to wash the windscreen five times. I don’t know if I’ve ever washed the windscreen five times in a journey so mine may not even work

The button you press to wash when you choose (my CLK) is for normal H7 bulbs on cars without self levelling .
The push stalk 5 times is for Xenon bulbs with self levelling (my E class)
That is my understanding.

Mine seems to be between about every five.....W212 though.

This :

My W203 had the button, my W211 had the automatic wash every 5 times the screen was washed, assuming the headlights were on

My 09 W211 E280 has no button and uses the occasional headlight wash if the headlights are on and I wash the screen.
I would have much preferred the button.
There are times, like when roads have been gritted/salted, that I would like to wash the lights without washing the screen 5 times.
BUT - As said ... First world problems !
