hi all,

Idiot boy here :(

I have a broken front fog lamp lens, on my 2005 'E'. To save money I bought a replacement Hella lens from MB (A 211 826 02 90) and intended to fit it myself. Bugger is, I can't see how to do it.

I'd hope to find it under "bulb changing", but the instruction manual talks about how to change every bulb other than the fog lamp.

I see a little access panel underneath, and when the car is up on stands we can feel the housing, but it's not at all obvious how to get it off from behind, and almost impossible to see anything.

Has anyone managed to do this themselves? Change a broken lens, that is.

thanks much :) cheers, c.

If its anything like my W210, you flip the panel down, unplug the cable from the housing (just a straight pull IIRC), the housing should then flip open (hinged from the top) and you change the bulb. I would presume at this point the method to remove the unit would become evident.

However the W211 might be different, in which case I'll stop manipulating my bottom cheeks to approximate the impression that I know what I'm on about :D

Mine's a 210, but think it will be the same, not sure tho
holding mine on are 2 bolts, can't remember the size , think 10 mm, or even smaller, after you have removed the bulb wiring connector put your hand inside the access panel and feel for bolt heads, one at either side of the lamp, they are a bit awkward, I used a torch looking in from under the front bumper lying on my back

The next awkward part is wangling the lamps out through the access flap, trial and error, they will only come out a certain way, remember the angle when putting them back in through the access

once you have the lamps out they are easy to strip.
hope this helps

There is not much room inside the access flap to get a good turn on the bolt heads with a spanner or even a socket.

thanks much all; sounds like a right fiddle :(

has anyone successfully changed a broken lens this way, rather than just a bulb/lamp?

A pic of one of my old fog lamps, you will see one side is broken where the screw goes through the right mount in the view, memory coming back now since I have looked at the lights again. There are 2 screws, the screws at either side marked with red arrow, they are bolt headed self tappers, the pic also shows one of the lens clips, white arrow.

The next pic shows removing the lens clips, there are 3 clips.

From an old thread

Left fog light diffuser lens A211 826 01 90

Right fog light diffuser lens A211 826 02 90

Prices in 2005 were £8.50

Probably easier with the bumper off, so you can see the whole unit.
