Hi Folks,

Should the w211 estate e280 alert or warn when parking brake engaged?
I can't count how many time I have set off down the road and forgetting to release the darn thing.
Having adjusted the parking brakes on more occasions than I'd like to admit due to the above I thought it high time I should ask this question.

My e280 does not warn me that the parking brake is still engaged so was wondering whether this is normal by design behavior or whether I have a fault if it should.

Prior to this vehicle I owned a VW Toureg this would beep away when one engaged drive.

For some reason I can't seem to remember to release the darn thing, its probably a mental issue or simply it because having spent most my years driving cars with a centre handbrake lever my auto response to the foot operated parking break is crap! LOL

Thanks
SRG

I get a warning on my 04 reg E class if I try to pull away with the handbrake not released.

The dash lights up in red and there is an audible alarm too.

I'm pretty sure our 1970's MB had a dashboard warning light for when the parking brake was still on.

I can't say I've ever noticed an audible alarm, but the CLK definitely has a warning light.

On my father's W210 and my own W211 we get both (warning light and audible alarm).

The warning light will always show if the handbrake is engaged.
The audible alarm will only sound if you drive away with the handbrake still engaged.

My 06 (post-facelift, so like yours) S211 bonged at me and flashed up a red "Park brake applied!" or similar.

Ours does too, red telltale on dash and then it shouts at you.

Does the 'Parking Brake Applied' light come on with the parking brake?

If it doesn't I'd strongly suspect the switch.

Thanks for all the replies above. I suspected it should indicate if still applied.
Now need to source the correct switch 🤔
