W211 possible SBC pump failure

where you based? you can try Wayne gates (member here) in London and it does require STAR.

been told it cost around £200ish to code and fit etc

Edit - will there be custom duty charged for this delivery?

I'd also suggest taking it to Terry at Wayne Gates in Harrow. It's your braking system after all and I'd want someone fully conversant with the SBC system, and STAR, to do the job.

Wayne Gates Specializing in Mercedes Benz

I'm another following this thread with great interest, so thanks for the updates Sve and good luck.

@Amo, there are no customs duties to be paid when trading within the EU:thumb:

Thanks for the support!

Just ordered the unit, there was slight change in the price. The unit price is still the same but on top of that I had 124 EUR additional charge, I'll get it refunded once they receive the old unit.

Here is a breakdown of the order:
BOSCH ABS / SBC Hydraulikaggregat - 781 € / £576
PFANDWERT HYDRAULIKAG - 124 € / £92
Delivery (DHL) - 12 € / £9
Insurance - 3 € / £2

TOTAL: 922 € / £680

They said it usually takes two days to arrive - fingers crossed it's all good and on time !

I'll give Wayne a call tomorrow and hope to get a good price.

In the meanwhile has anyone ever done this to diminish the humming/buzzing noise during pressure buildup from SBC system:
Mention DTB P-B-42.46/27e the single suction damper is being replaced by a suction hose with integral double suction dampers (part # A2114208826). In the process, they will bleed the SBC system with Star Diagnosis.

Thanks!

Sve

Thank you for the update.

If this works, I feel a group buy is in order....

What do you mean "if this works". I just paid £680 it has to work! :)

I'll keep you updated.

It will work. I mean cost wise, if it works out all good, I think it would be wise for me (and maybe others) to get it done now rather than wait for the warning to come up.

Is that not the update that everyone has had done?

b1g1an really ? Mine does not have that and given I'll change the SBC I was thinking to install suction hose as well. Can you give me some more information please ? Will it be enough if I take the DTB note to the indy and ask him to do it ? Only place I was able to find the part from the note were two EU sites and cost was around 80-90€.

Thanks.

I remember reading somewhere that these were done under warranty by dealerships with E classes only. It would make sense to have it done now while you getting your pump replaced.

This is still very good price for part and then whatever the labour costs are. I feel much better owning my CLS now to think if it fails, it wouldn't be 1300 for repair! I also think that this could help with any potential buyers too as SBC did put off alot of buyers in past for older W211's

Having checked this thread and just compared to mine...

I'm now positive, second pic showing double damper update is exactly what I've got and was fitted to all as a matter of course...unless the owner of your car ducked out of main dealer servicing almost immediately of course.

On my CLS as least, it doesn't silence it but makes it around the same volume as all the other system noises from under the bonnet or through the firewall depending on your viewpoint. Must've been a shocker without for them to go to the trouble of producing a 'fix'.

Mine doesn't have the double-damper update and whilst the system is audible on charge, it's not that loud really. When it went back to Mercedes in July 2011, they updated the firmware and it made it a little quieter but did not effect that fix (nor did they seem to know about it).

Quieter than the supercharger.

You sure you mean the supercharger, the start up and low rev/speed audible whine is the oil pump.

Nope!

I meant whatever was fitted to the car as it has a supercharger that makes that noise, which non-sc cars don't, on starting which you have now clarified for me.

Just a note. I had my front pads replaced a two weeks before I got the RED message on the dashboard. I had a "Brake wear" message on the dash but I can't remember if I got "Service brake" at that time or just after the pads were replaced. The chap did NOT used STAR to disable the SBC but replaced the pads straight away and on few places I read that this is necessary. Could this replacement caused the above message ? I've checked the oil reservoir and it has plenty of fluid.

The MB quote was around £1100. The BBA-REMAN price of £920 was for exchange and they would ship it from Germany. Both have VAT included.

Found a company called Sinspeed which claims to be able to repair pumps. I asked them for a quote but so far I found only one positive comment and few negative.
my advice is DONT GO TO SINSPEED they ripped me off big time

Got email from the shop that my order is processed and prepared for transport.

Regarding the noise (which is not that loud) I don't have the double damper and was wondering if I can get it fitted during the replacement.

cazyp - indeed, I had the same thoughts but wasn't sure 1) if the unit I order won't fail anytime soon, 2) it will fit my car.

parkscon - thanks for the advise, I already ordered new unit from Germany.

Regards

Sent them email to ask how it works.

Agreed on the failure and replacement but it's horrendous bill, almost 1/3 of the cars price.

hi had the message service brake visit workshop went to Mercedes dealer ship got no where replacement cost was almost £1850. Had a reset done by a company in London it was all good for a few days then the message returned rang the company they said their is nothing more they could do basically pump needs replacing . Looked around and found a chap not far from heathrow airport under Mercedes SBC Unit Repair Reset Service Reading Berkshire had the reset carried out with a 30 day money back guarantee if fault code returns. Fingers crossed 6 months later pump is still working fine.

Was the company that did your first reset called Sinspeed?

I understand only fault code C249F allows the possibility of the pump counter to be reset.

Unfortunately for the OP, he needed a new pump.

Quick update - I finally got confirmation that the order is shipped and got DHL tracking number. Also not sure what the conversation rate was on that day but checking my statement I was actually charged £701.

AMGeed I heard so too. I met a chap who had STAR-similar machine - checked the car and was absolutely sure it was the counter. A week later he has done reset and said that actually it might be the pump which failed.

Hi Sve,

Any further updates on the parts?
