W211 Tips On Buying An E270 or E320 cdi

53 Reg is from September 2003 until March 1st 2004 when it changes to '04.

You're at a price point sadly where you're going to have to be on your toes, the best tip I always give to anyone who asks is that you can tell an awful lot by the tyres that are on; if they're all different and cheap crap then run a mile, if they've got four premium brands then there's the better possibility that it'll have been looked after.

I still have not grasped the stupid way the car reg start and finish, they never consider making anything obvious. :wallbash:

Ill maybe phone that first silver one tomorrow and make inquiries. Its 81 miles from Coventry and wonderful autotrader does not give out location.

Hasn't worked for a long time and needs removing for what use it is.

the guy who was trying to sell me the car with the brabus wheels, i gave him some honest criticism by text, basically i told him was a lying scumbag, he is trying to cover up that fault and not mention the fault in his advert. He said his son is a copper and i should worry  anarchy in the uk ha ha :bannana:

read the bottom of his advert, he has edited it and had a long rant about me lol CLICK

hopefully any bidders will go in with their eyes open now

May be worth checking that its not "Brake wear visit workshop" instead of "Service brake visit workshop" as the 1st one is just a Broken or not fitted wear indicator.

he could not even tell me correctly what the fault is. Brake visit workshop is what he told me. All i know is he did not mention this until i asked about faults. Which is a bit too devious for my liking. He also never mentioned the service light until i was making plans to view it.

Bit of advice: if you don't want a car or disagree with the seller, just walk away from it; don't waste your energy having a barney with them because no-one wins.

Although there's always the possibility that the day after you buy, what appears to be your perfect car will appear, you seem dead set on what you want.

Many links, of what look like reasonable cars for the money, but too far to travel (which is an understandable criteria to set), so if distance is one of your top priorities, reconsider the one that is on offer from Mercland.

Your view of dealers is severe, maybe rightly so, but at your price point, the confidence of buying from a forum sponsor here with a great reputation, versus the fact it's not got leather could see you miss out on a reliable, good looking car.

Double whammy; you buy a pup, as you know routinely exist out there and end up way out of pocket to boot...

^I think you were wise to leave that one. Too many things he failed to mention.

Hopefully something will come up locally.

One of the cars that was posted i intend to call from autotrader, one had too short an mot and the others were traders posing as private, these people are the worst and your guaranteed to get load of lies from them. I dont trust them at all the fact they are posing as private selllers is a reason to avoid.

I cant say anything against mercland as i have never dealt with them but leather or half leather is one of those things i must have if i paying a few grand for a merc.

my intention was to make him feel guilty for lying and get him to post the truth about the car on ebay, i was a bit shocked he was happy to let people bid not knowing about this problem. Saint Robert :D

what about this in Manchester, looks and sounds good i called the guy, sound fine, there is a small hairline crack on the front bumper and a small area of damage. It has 3 months mot, he said he would mot it if i was buying the car.

opinions please guys, 3.2 cdi good spec, he says amg alloys are genuine. clicky

^ Looks a nice car. Check those heated seats work (red light illuminated when on)
If genuine, those wheels are a bonus. They look good on the car.

Best of luck!

cheers, i said i would go and view tomorrow evening, weather permitting. He mentioned something about a light sensor needing replaced for the airbag, do you know what that is, he says its only £30. He could not tell me about the tyres on the car but europarts recommend them.:( Maybe not a reason to dismiss a nice car though.

I will make a point of trying everything electric including the seats.:thumb:

I will try and get as much off as possible, i dont mind paying decent money for a decent car, im not out to buy a bargain though, is £3250 about right for this car?

Guys, that one i just posted, with the amg wheels, are those amg bumpers ? The more i look at it i think the bumpers are sport but its a standard side skirt and looks a bit odd, the front bumper is sitting nose down a little, maybe because of the knock on the front of it, the back bumper does not look flush with the rear wheel arch. If those are genuine amg alloys, will they have expensive wide rear tyres?

^ Those are AMG front and rear bumpers for sure with an insert in the rear one to cover up the lack of quad pipes. I have tha same bumpers on my E55.
The rear bumper may have been removed at some point and not re-positioned very well or more likely the AMG bumpers were an aftermarket fit and not done perfectly.

Still looks OK to me and worth the asking price. If you can knock the price a little all good for you.
Edit. If he puts a full MOT on it and fixes the sensor its worth the full asking price IMO.

Thanks for your opinion on that, im handy with the spanners so hopefully the bumpers car be adjusted a little to fit better. I can think the lack of matching skirts are letting it down a little, its not a big issue. It has a lot going for it so definitely work a look. As you say probably best getting him to mot it and fix the sensor and try and get a bit off the price.

If the guy goes to the trouble of putting a new MOT on it and fixing the sensor fault, don't be surprised if he holds out for his asking price. He has already priced it well and the wheels alone are worth £500. That AMG bodykit won't have been cheap either.
Don't walk away from a potentially good car over a few £££:D
