Hi guys i went to view one but the sterring wheel which has alcantara on it was completely worn down so much that it looked like leather
Is this common and is there a fix? A retrim option

It's caused by the 'relief' sweat from your palms when you've taken a bend out of your comfort zone

No need to re-trim. The Alcantara gets matted by skin oils but is easily rejuvenated by cleaning with baby wipes. Don't use them on the leather though, as they will eventually damage the surface coating.

Lol @ above well I guess I need to take some of my baby's wipes and get cleaning but these don't look like they can be clean either way worth a try

Well done that man. I tried this last night, brought the Alcantara up like new.

By the way I am now the new owner of an E63

Got it with dynamic led, park assist, comfort access and the usual standard options like pan roof etc unfortunately no massage seats but very pleased with it thus far

Don't be too worried about toys, I am the same basic E63s, Park assist (not used it), heated vented seats (not used them), old CL has massage seats rarely used them,
577 bhp ( used it all bloody awesome)
Enjoy

Hi,
This is probably one of the best tips that I have ever read on a car forum!
Our ML63 went in for its 60,000km service last week and I pointed out the shiny Alcantara sides of our steering wheel to the service advisor and asked him if it could be looked at under warranty.
He just shrugged his shoulders and said that it was fair wear and tear - nothing could be done (other than a new steering wheel)
This morning, I used some baby wipes on the steering wheel - and they brought it up like new!

Any particular brand of baby wipes? one of my pet bugbears is a sticky steering wheel.

The inserts are semi-aniline leather and most cleaners specifically say not to use on suede or aniline leather, so this tip is gold for me!

Cheers,
Alex

Not having any rug-rats, I undertook a voyage of discovery when I ventured into the "baby supplies" aisle of our local Tesco where I selected the smallest pack (i.e. roughly the size of an average adult weekend suitcase) of own brand ones.

While I have used them on the leather of my steering wheel too, I was warned against that as they will eventually damage the coating.

I went with Johnsons baby wipes, which I bought in Tesco

Agreed. Best tip ever. Had a pack of budget 'euro shopper' baby wipes in the garage - so used them. Wheel came up like new. Thanks!
