Hi,

My 2001 S500(26k) has come up with the above malfunction. I have checked the left headlamp at night and it seems like the blue/white light xenon bulb is not working. (One side shows the blue glow the other side just has a amber dim)

I assume I need to get the bulb changes, is this something I could do?

If not how much should it cost for the stealer (parts/labour)? Or an independent?

Is there anything else it could be?

Thanks
Jig

It is a problem either with the xenon capsule, aka bulb or the control unit, aka ballast. It is entirely possible that something has become unplugged or some other connection has failed, check for any loose cables in the engine bay near the headlamp. If the ballast has died then they're pretty expensive to replace, like £200ish, if the bulb has gone then you can either get a pair of oem ones for about £150ish or aftermarket £70ish. The prices I mention are for parts only, if you ask the stealership to carry out such work it can be very expensive (labour-intensive operations like bumper or headlamp removal are sometimes required).

Good luck!

you shouldnt attempt to change xenons, they are very high power units. use an indy for these jobs

i was looking at the bulbs on my car the other week and thought "how the hell do you get at them".
