I bought my motor from Mercedes in Shrewsbury and so far so good apart from the odd minor gripe. However I live in Manchester and the Shrewsbury location isn't that convenient. Does anyone take their car to their local Merc dealer for warranty repairs or would they drive to the dealer they purchased it from (if reasonably near) ? I think that if they don't know me from Adam at my local dealer then they'll not do a good service so why I am prepared to drive 70 miles to Shrewsbury. I'm taking it in for the battery recall and also to sort out the rattling windows.

Saftey recall on W203

Recieved a letter through post from the Stealer that supplied my car stating that there is a saftey recall on this model in relation to there being a faulty battery starter on the vehcile that could possibly lead to the failure of vehilce's electrical system....

Has any member yet had their W203 looked at by the Stealershipin relation to this particular saftey recall?

Not that long ago I had one of my xenon headlamps fail to ignite but it appears to be running fine now (touch the wood) - I'm think perhaps this safety rercall may be related to the inital problem I experienced as related to the electrical system.

Hello Mate,

We bought our second Benz (A Class Elegance) from the Shrewsbury Dealership a few months back. As it happens we have a C Class which we bought from our Oxford Dealership. However my folks live up in Shrewsbury - and at the time they had a really good deal on this A Class - so we bought it. But obvisouly like you we didnt wanna have to come all the way up from Oxford to Shrewsbury to have anything done - so we checked with Merc Oxford - and they were quite happy to take it on.

They recently did a service on it... costed me girlfriend a fortune btw.. as it seems the Shrewsbury Stealership only did the minimum to get the A Class though MOT on its last time - so the bill cost £700!!!! Needless to say we complained to the Shrewsbury Dealership - complaining about the amount of work that needed doing - and seeing as we had only bought it 2/3 months before... the service bulb shouldnt have been flashing so quickly and all the things that needed changing / doing!! We also complained to Mercedes when they did their little aftercare phone call... but we never heard any feedback. hmmm....

Anyway I will get off me soap box now....typical Stealerships I suppose.. :(

However I still love Mercs!

Hope that helps mate.

I have just recieved the same letter recalling the car because of an issue with the Starter Battery.

The Bi-Xenon Headlight Fault is another issue....I recently had the complete unit replaced because of an intermittent Fault.
MB are aware of this Problem but have no solution at the moment other than replace the complete unit if fault occurs. (ask your dealer about this)

Regards
Joe

Mmm....Very interesting indeed.

Mercedes car salespeople have some of the lowest margins on car sales in the industry - just 8% on a new car.

Mercedes car service people have some of the highest margins on car servicing in the industry - as far as I can see, judging by the prices per hour.

I don't think dealers give a stuff if you've bought the car from another dealer, what they want is the servicing and parts revenue; in the long run, they will make far more out of you through your servicing than on the original sale. It would be going too far to say that they only sell the cars to generate the service revenues - but it can't be far off that.

That's why they (should) fall over themselves to be nice to you even if you've brought the car in from another dealer.

Philip

PS: Bought my MB on the internet for maximum saving and just popped it into Tony Purslow Guildford for remedial work. I was treated like royalty even though the car came from MB Coventry (who are also very nice people).
