I have an opportunity to pick up a new watch - there is a spread in the value of the watches I can choose from but below are the front runners.

Any observations or advice would be appreciated!

1. Breitling SuperOcean Mens

2. Omega SeaMaster (the 007 watch )

3. Omega SeaMaster Pro

4. TAG Carrera

5. TAG Carrera Calibre 7

6. TAG Monaco

I am looking for something I can wear day to day (which means the Monaco is probably discounted due to the glass).

Opinions, suggestions of others and in particular experience would be appreciated.

Cheers:thumb:

2 or 3 ( I wear number 2 , if it's good enough for Jimmy , then it's good enough for me ) ...

Been a good watch , had a minor problem within warranty , but all sorted very quickly.

I like the Breitling and nearly bought an RNLI ltd edition one ( lifeboat crews only ;) ) , but it looked too small on my wrist.

I guess its all down to personal preference but I wouldn't buy another quartz watch, as I believe mechanical watches ar far superior. Out of the watches you list, i believe quite a number are quartz.

My personal preference of the bunch would be the Omega Seamaster but some of these are quartz too I understand so you need to specify the type of movement.

I know nothing about watches, but based on looks I'd get the TAG Carrera.
Simply, modest, classic. Less likely to get mugged with that than the Breitling IMHO.

The Breitling definitely.

I have owned a SuperOcean for approx 5yrs, wear it everyday. A real solid watch mechanical with a beautiful heartbeat :)

For the price of one of those I would buy a few old Oris and Longines mechanicals and have a crappy Casio for everyday wear (assuming you might get anything near water!). Don't run with the herd

Isn't there an app for the iphone ?

Watches are so last century ...... ;)

I'd look for a used Rolex Seadweller or Submariner....the world is your "oyster"

Bit of a price difference .... if you can get a nice second hand Sub for the price of a Seamaster new , let me know as i'd like one.

The Breitling I'd be looking at is also a special edition.

I like the TAG Monaco - what's the problem with the glass ?

I already have one and the glass sits proud of the case so very vulnerable to damage.

I have both a breitling superocean and an omega seamaster which my brother bought of me. Both great watches but the strap on the omega is far superior. On my Superocean due to the weight the pins kept snapping and the watch dropped twice. That's the only criticism. The Breitling will come with a rubber strap which also looks great. A Breitling headwind I have now does have a much better/solid strap and no problems there. The tags are good but no personal experience there. Between those I would go for the seamaster chrono. Really stunning and rarer watch. Try them on your hand and see which one you like.

IMHO there is only one watch to choose from in the upto £2k price bracket and that's the same watch which beat all-comers in a competition run by NASA to choose the watch for it's astronauts for the moon landings.

The Omega Speedmaster Professional

I checked with my supplier and will add another to the list of possibles....

Speedmaster is lovely and a little bit rarer ...

Have you looked at the Seamasters in titanium ?

A vote for the Speedmaster professional "moon watch" that you've added to your shortlist from me. I've worn one everyday for the last seven years, love it.

I have a speedy pro gemini 4 (one of their myriad limited editions) its a lovely blue colour.

Like the watch but miss a date wheel and it weighs a lot so I often take it off when I'm working on computers. Its also not automatic, which is not really an issue.

Acrylic crystal looks nicer IMO than the sapphire ones and if it gets scratched (which it does as I wear it all the time) polywatch gets rid of marks in no time.

I've also a vintage (1958) 6542 GMT, but the beautifully patinated bezel fell off a while back and I havn't got round to getting it to a specialist.
