What car did you pass your driving test in?

I was having lessons in this:

Fiesta 950 Popular Plus.jpg
But the Sunday before my test, which was first thing Monday morning, my driving instructor had a 'mishap' whereby he had a bad reaction to 12 pints of Cider and tried to 'park' the Fiesta into the local enforcement teams Austin Allegro!
Much like another poster i had to quickly learn how to drive something much bigger and automatic - And this is the exact car:

I had to drive auto's for years!! 1977 Daimler Double Six.... Great fun

I did my driving test in my mother's Austin/Nash Metropolitan - like this but RHD.

My first car bought a few weeks before I took my test in 1959 was a 1934 MG L type Magna, like this but green:-

If IIRC I paid £25 and sold it 3 years later for £50 - it's probably now worth £60k ! It had a 1,087cc 6 cylinder in-line engine producing a massive 41bhp thanks to a 12-port, cross-flow cylinder head !

Love the Met. A friend had one and would drive it like a Ferrari which with respect it wasn’t. 😎

My mum's Austin Maxi, in two tone as above (but dark green over pale green). A veritable skip on wheels.

Well actually ,for full disclosure, I "learned to drive" in it but didn't use it for my test. For that I actually booked a "BSM introductory package" of ( 4x ?)driving lessons for (can't quite remember how much) a ridiculously loss leader price. The driving instructor was livid when, after the first 30 mins of him talking me through the controls of his car I announced that we had to go to the test center as my Driving test was due in 10 mins.!
He sat in the back seat, purple faced and scowling, all through my test.
We were back at the test center for the questions bit before the end of my booked sessions elapsed, however as soon as that time arrived he drove off without waiting to learn that I had passed. 🤭
So I passed in a BSM driving school car, which I only ever drove once and that left such a memorable impression that I could only say with certainty that it was small (compared to the wheeled skip).

In it's defense, whilst I was undeniably ashamed of Maxi-tub when my peers all had Jags, Spitfires, Capri's etc... for a hormonally driven 17yo it's fold down back seats & ample space was "rewarding". 😉

1977 Vauxhall Viva Estate

A light blue VW Beatle.

A 1973 Ford Escort Van.
I had the reversing around a corner off to a fine art as you could only use the wing mirrors but when doing the test the examiner asked me to reverse with the offside near the kerb which didn’t half confuse me.

BMC ADO16 - Austin or Morris 1100 - 53 years ago.

I had reversing around a corner off to a fine art as with a bit of matchstick jammed in the rear screen rubber, all you had to do was line it up with the kerb and voila!

Singer gazelle 1967 silver with a black stripe the length of the car that’s going back a bit lol 😆D077FE2A-CAFD-4014-89FA-46CEE6FC527B.jpeg

:D plenty of leg room in the front and leg-over room in the back 🤭

Hillman Imp , lessons were 12s 6d per hour , The instructor I had fell asleep one Sunday Afternoon, I think his Roast Dinner knocked him out .

An Austin Maestro 1.3L - a absolute 'beast' of a car.
