What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Sweet FA.

Day 2 of waiting for my MB dealership to get back to me with confirmation that MBUK will pay for my corroded subframe replacement and to let me know when they'll do the bloody job. Being without a car for the first time in 60 years is HELL.
I presume you believe you've a good case?

Yep! As did MB who have agreed to pay for full replacement. Because it’s a known Mercedes design fault.

The downside is not expected to be done until late next week. On the plus side, it keeps the local taxi drivers employed!

Hopefully cured the small leak at the front of my engine. Was coming from the EGR inlet, shutter valve or anti shudder valve (often wrongly referred to as the throttle valve) area. It was leaking from the short silver EGR pipe and the point where the EGR inlet enters the intake. So I removed to whole intake....easy to do with the fan (one screw and one electrical plug) out of the way. The L shaped EGR inlet should have had four large holes in....but, thanks to the oily carbon gunk build it actually only had one small hole!.... so that should help with EGR function now it's all clean. The shutter valve was pretty spotless which was a surprise. I was not sure where the leak would be so just reused the seals and gaskets and helped them along with some sealant for now....but if it leaks again I'll buy a gasket set....its an easy job. Just got to wait for my second, hopefully fully functioning, EGR valve to arrive and it should be 100 percent...for a while!

Drove to down to the Indian for regular Thursday evening curry with my mate, then drive back again. I live such a wild life......
If you keep having Thursday evening curries on a Wednesday evening then you’ll need to rename them Wednesday evening curries 😁

Edited to add: Christ it’s Friday today isn’t it?! 👀

Yes, welcome to Friday Rob! 🤣🤣

It’s been a car themed day of two halves. Up and out early in this little terrier for an MOT. All done by 0745 with a clean pass, and then carried on to go to work in it.

I very very rarely take anything even slightly interesting to work but I made an exception as the MOT station is well on the way and I hadn’t got time to swap cars.

Left work very early to make sure I was back in plenty of time for something special this evening. I would have been better off waiting at work as I was held up big time.

I didn’t move a wheel for 1h 40m. Roof down in direct sunshine. I may be sunburned! Worst thing is being in that car for 3 hours wearing work shoes - the footwell is very tight!

The second half of the car themed day was that whilst I was getting the car MOTed and working, another car was being detailed ready for tonight.

It’s Baby D’s prom night and after the motorway hold up I made it home just in time to help him get ready, change cars, and arrive bang on time.

I can’t believe I posted about his arrival more than 16 years ago and now I’m sat outside his prom venue waiting to shuttle him to an after party.

In between I just had time to whiz back, collect Mrs D and go for a short drive to grab a Starbucks coffee and sausage sandwich. Living the dream.

I saw some pics of my sons prom... which is tonight....I may be just getting old....but when did it become ok to send your 16 year old daughter to the school prom dressed in next to nothing looking like a 30 year old hooker with more make up then a 50 year old porn actress. Glad I only have a son.

I saw quite a few young ladies and gents attending the prom and they were all very smartly dressed. More ladies than I expected were dressed like Cinderella, a few were a bit more contemporarily dressed but I didn’t see any which were less appropriately dressed.

After three hours in a marquee my son’s suit looks like it’s already lived a full life! Should have stuck with my instinct and bought him something a little more disposable - he did look jolly smart when he went in tough.

We agreed that I’d collect him from the after party at 0000 unless he messaged to ask otherwise. He ignored my messages and calls, and asked for an extension at precisely 0000 when I was already parked outside.

So I am now perched precariously on a fast country lane waiting for him. Anticipating that I might be parked for a while I ditched the prom drop-off and pick-up car in favour of the pint-sized Smart Roadster.

I gave the S212 a very quick wash yesterday just because I wanted to see how my new DI vessel worked! Hideous conditions for it being full sun and about 28 degrees! Plus half way through washing my Mother in law phoned me to wish me happy birthday!

But lo, what a revelation, it works! After a rinse I left it to dry in the sun and no marks at all. Why didn’t I buy one of these years ago - game changer for sure. 👍

I had to add a couple of washers to act as spacers for the screw in hose attachments on the vessel so that my Gardena/Hozelock fittings would fit but luckily had some to hand.

....you must have seen a different version of Cinderella to me. In the one I saw her dress didnt have clingy skirt split to the waist or a top so low that it left little to the imagination!
There was that adult version called "Sin-derella"...but I'm sure a man of your standing has not seen that!
A bingo dress as my dad would call it.... "eyes down, look in for a full house"!
As far as the suit went...we got him a mid range one knowing full well we had a wedding to go to a couple of weeks back....so as much as he might never wear it again, at least it got two wearings! Tbh he seems to be growing again (hes already an inch taller than me at 6 foot....i stopped growing when i was 15) so no doubt it won't fit in a few months time anyway and will end up on FB market place!

I did mine in the full glare of the sun at 7.00. Very unpleasant and extremely hard to avoid water marks as everything dried instantaneously. Took me ages as I was moving like a snail and had to go over everything twice due to the marking.

I fancy one of those DI vessels......

I can’t recommend them enough! My only regret is that I didn’t buy one years ago!

The one I bought is designed for window cleaning but Raceglaze also sell some and are well respected.

No doubt there were some dressed a little spcier, but they must have been in he minority. When Baby D and I were queuing up to the drop off point I even said it was like driving through a Disneyland parade
