Just had belt and tensioner pulley replaced by an Indie on my w202 c220cdi as it was flapping, and was shocked at the price of the pulley.

The pulley replaced was the one in the far left corner, looks like its made from metal and quite small.

What is a fair price for this part? Eurocarparts, GSF etc is unclear on their websites.

For the record I paid £72 + VAT, about £86 for the part alone.

It is a freewheeling alternator pulley. Did they not explain this? The price is spot on.

As Olly says, these pulleys now have clutches built into them so that the alternator can free wheel to a halt thus extending the life of the alternator. It is the price to pay for having loads of electronics that need huge (expensive) alternators that then need to be protected.
Look on it as alternator insurance.

Hi
I guess that was for a genuine MB part, I priced one for my 220cdi at xmas when i was in german and sweedish geting an idler pulley and the freewheeling alternater one was about £40. one of my earlier posts have the exact price but it was there abouts.

Not sure if it oem or a copy tho

regards
Chris

Just been under the hood again today and looked again at the pulley which was changed, its not the one with a clutch that one is on the right side. The one which was replaced is on the far lower left side and is small, about 10cms wide.

Seems very expensive.
