drove this today:
Mercedes-Benz S Class S500 LWB Limousine auto for sale at DW Leisure Mercedes Benz Specialist 153 Vale Road Northfleet Kent DA11 8BX

Lovely car. Seems in good nick. Rear wheels arches (near the door) seem to have rusted and repainted.

Car was smooth and powerful, gear change seamless and V8 was wonderful.

Interior is good condition.

Things it needs:

1. rear tyres
2. rear discs
3. new parktronic sensor(s) somewhere .. as there's a fault

Does anyone know:

a) how much a car like this is worth?
b) whether this car has the 7G-tronic gearbox (I didn't check!)

Hmm - I'm not up on W220 values but it seems a bit expensive, even for a facelift one considering the mileage and that it's not A1.

Petrol prices on the rise, coming up to Xmas etc - must be some room for negotiation on an older, large engined petrol car like that.

Will

It won't be a 7G gearbox, I'm 90% sure that it isn't, although a facelift on an 03 it could be... Hmm... I'll just shut up.

£12,995 sounds like a lot of money given the miles but it is a facelift.
I haven't got Glass' Guide to hand but CAP values suggest it is particulary expensive.

the transmission number from the VIN check site: 722633 04 567810

agree it's pricey.

2 owners.

Trade 8k
Retail 11.8k

Based on 90k mileage, comand and Nappa inc. (glass)

Book in hand.

Can't imagine in the current climate an 6 year old V8 S-class is a book car. That garage has either had that W220 for a long time and it owes them a fortune or they are being optimistic with the price.

thanks mucho for the input. much appreciated.

like the black in West Yorkshire .. not keen on the privacy glass though, but like the light leather.

Really want a facelift.

Supply and demand.. Seen them selling well over book at auction recently and in many cases only a few £££ under retail price, saying that I guess that they would snap you're hand off for a decent offer nearish the mark. Looked at two Touaregs this week, both traders dropped 1k even before test driving so perhaps people are becoming jittery about the fuel prices again?

How does 1k sound for your S600? :D

I was thinking £10k ...

I bought my S500L for 11.5k but with new tyres all round, full service, MOT - very similar car. Nappa, Comand, Linguatronic, phone, xenons etc.

It's a 5 speed auto box BTW.

Best car I've ever owned.

cubanite silver car does not have nappa .. looks like standard leather .. dash and doors is plastic

Auctions are expensive, the amount of "I bought last months guide off ebay so I must be a full fledged trader" guys at auctions just drives the price up and up as they will bid whatever the book says because they think that is how it works. I never buy from auctions unless it's a closed auction. The 2 manufactures I deal in Skoda/Alfa Romeo aren't book cars they have a couple of models which are sought after and will make strong money in the trade but send them off to auction and they will make all the money in the world but no proper dealer is going to spend book money on one unless they've got a billy lined up for it.

£1k would be fine for my old 600 if that's what it was worth although I suspect whacking it on autotrade-mail with an accurate description would yield bids of £2k-ish, so I'll take that rather than £1k!

Jeeze, bad day at the office?

Yeah. Sorry... I'll go back to my cave.
