what is an S500L (W220) worth?

I was thinking £10k ...

Maybe I'm not a very good negotiator but I just find it off-putting if I feel that a dealer's car is priced >10% more than I'm willing to offer.

Out of interest how are you going to approach offering £3k less on a £13k car.

I'll tell you if it works :)

you phone him up + say I am interested in the car but not at £13k; my offer is £10k as it is no p/x. Not that hard really; he can only say yes or no.

That doesn't always work, stock of used cars are pretty low at the moment. At the moment having the right PX can help you get a better deal.

First facelift W220 i've heard of that's rusted, I assumed that all 'newish' vehicles were rust free, facelift 203, 211, etc.

Before I bought the E55, I was really looking for a clean W210 and that Garage (DW Lesuire) has a nice one, right spec leather, history etc, but it was up for £5995 when really it was all the money at £4000/4500. When I called up , having told them Id been to see the car on the lot, they wouldnt budge more than a token few hundred quid. I guess they eventually get the silly prices as it went in the end.

My neighbour has a W220 S500L , don't know which year or spec , but the car is black and looks superb - I do remember him telling me when he bought it about 2 years ago that he got a very good deal and it was under two grand - so it would seem you can get a W220 for the same sort of money as a W126 or W140 . I've seen others on forecourts for four or five grand - so to my thinking 10K is waaay too much .

true .. luckily I am not in a rush or desperate for an S500L

it was surprising to me too .. I think it is galvanised, so it may be a bad repair

looks like I won't be buying from them then ..

10k is a reasonable price, anything more would be ridiculous

Getting a W220 for less than 2k 2 years ago was very unusual, they're worth far more than 126 or 140s.

that can't be right....

there is no way unless there is something "dodgy" about that any W220 would of been £2k 2 years ago. you'd probably never see one for £2k now. He's either telling porkies or he said £20k or £10k :D

Anything between £5k and £15k is probably right, depending on age, spec and condition. i very much doubt you can get one for less than £5k unless it has serious issues. i was watching a salvage-repaired S500L 2001 on ebay the other month and it fetched about £5k.

As for making the guy an offer, go for it. he can only say no. it doesnt matter what he is advertising it for.... £10k is reaosnable and is WHAT IT IS WORTH TO YOU. he then makes his decision based upon what he needs for the car. from the sounds of things, he'll reject it though, but i wouldnt worry about making the offer as it is reasonable and higher than others are priced out there...
