What Is It With Tinted Front Screens?

Any speed camera that photographs only the front plate isn't going to catch any motorcyclists. Surprising then that they don't exclusively target the rear plate.

That is exactly why many motorcyclists speed through average speed cameras with impunity .

Oh , and the front facing cameras also can capture an image of the driver , thus reducing fraud when someone denies they were driving .

Or on their phone.

The latest craze around here is displaying the front number plate inside the car ,mainly Audi`s, tucked between the dash and corner of the windscreen.:dk:

Not enough police patrols to deal with these idiots who seem to manage the risk and are getting away with it.

Kenny

probably TDI owners.

Front Bob, not side .

Ok, fair point.

I have seen all the side windows heavily tinted which in turn makes the front look tinted but have not seen fronts tinted. That is bad.

Got to agree, I've never seen a front windscreen that's had an aftermarket tint added. Large stupid sunscreen yes, tint, nope.

Most cars are hard to see into head on if they have side and rear tints.

I once saw a W100 600 in black with every pane of glass smoked black so you couldn't see in anywhere at all - proper Mafia staff car - AIUI , it was legal back in the sixties when the car would have been made ; most owners being above the law anyway .

Almost all Speed cameras read rear plates don't they?

Anpr also? Surely it could pick up the rear plate as they are in my experience facing in such a way that they are always reading the back of the car?

How about all the people driving around with completely blacked out dirty numberplates all muddy etc (with the I forgot to clean it/no time excuse)?
No. A great deal of ANPR cameras look at the front of the car, especially those on motorways with variable speed limits.

I saw a Porsche in Kuwait some years ago with black 'limo' tint on all of its windows including the windscreen ! It gets dark early over there, I just hope he got home to his palace before sunset !

Car manufacturers tint the windscreens of their cars for press shots so you can't see the driver, probably where the fad started.

Granted - but that's not what I saw.

We're talking inner city Birmingham here - weird stuff happens.

I'll get a photo if poss.

MSL this morning - a lovely RS6. I wanted to take a few photos of the front screen but I couldn't see if the owner was inside. One of the techs went right upto the glass, peered in and confirmed the car was empty.

If you look at the three shots, there's nothing of the inside visible from outside
Even the camera/sensor in shot 3 is obscured

So fricking dangerous.

On my first C43 the original owner had light tints on the fronts and slightly heavier tints on the rears.

It looked great but in dusk it dramatically cut down what I could see out of the door mirrors.

There's a reason it was banned.

Mine has limo glass on the rear sides and rear window - great at keeping valuable stuff out of view and great at slowing you down at night as you've not got a clue what's behind you...

How long before we see self dimming rear windows?

What's wrong with self dimming rvm? If the rear window dimmed, you'd still need dimming door mirrors.

Some super luxury limos have dimming glass dividers between the driver and passengers.

Sorry I meant side windows
