Whats the best - Fuel pump type for Mercedes W124 260E

To bring the post back to life . Strainer was removed yesterday along with the hose to the pump from the strainer ..i recon after seeing this i can rule out tank blockage ..see pics .After the hose was removed the fuel was drained out there was 6 gallon in total . .not very fresh by the smell of it .And in the last drop we found sludge . But nothing on the strainer ..The strainer is good for another 36 years , so is the hose ..Now hunt is on for good pumps .pic of old ones DSC07812.JPGDSC07816.JPG

But nothing on the strainer

My strainer was very clean and was very likely the original. We changed it anyway as I had one in stock. But I've retained the original as it's really clean after a burst of carb cleaner. My comment about the filter was purely based on the pain involved in removing and replacing the pump pack and the relative cheapness of the filter.

Ray i paid for the job to be done .On the search now for new ones again . NBeen on to Partsinmotion and got a claim in ...Bosch pumps i purchased had 5 years warranty on them ..But they are playing hard to get ,,,with information on the Ebay receipt took some finding in amongst 6 folders ,,,,not easy when some time back i dropped them ... and all receipts got mixed up as i put tham back in the folders .Wish me luck in getting a claim going

Ray i have just operated on one of the old Bosch pumps that were removed last year .It was as clean as the strainer , there is nothing in there clean as a whistle ..know what i cant fathom out how they work without blowing up . They are sealed top and bottom ,and fuel circulates in the center ..they look like an explosive device ,,,,i will post a few pictures if i have time Thursday .
Ray you have a good night ...Trev

This is just what i have done . I could not understand once i had it open , how the pump is full of volatile fuel , and its not exploded ..so to anyone that did not know , like me , then watch the video .

Any one have an outlet for these EHA valve O rings showing in the picture ?

MB, should still be available. A0129979748.

Failing that, AutoDoc for Bosch ones at about 5€ each.

Are you sure it's the O-rings? Years ago on my 300-24 it was the EHA leaking which, these days, is a costly business. Sorry.

Would that number be the same as i need ?

Can't say but it seems likely.

In your shoes I'd be tempted to try some similar sized nitrile O-ring (Lidl???) to see it that is the issue. If so, get the good ones.

I say that because my radiator connection was leaking a couple of months ago so I replaced an O-ring with some random thing I have in stock and the minor leak has stopped and all's well 2 months later.

If not, start saving for a new EHA.

Ray .Would you know what brackets hold the plastic splash cover on to the pumps .
There are 3 x 10 mm plastic nuts .I need to know whats above them that they screw on to .
Cant find any info in the manual

brackets hold the plastic splash cover on to the pumps .

I would say they hold on to the underside of the body, not on to the pumps.

I would expect some sort of clips into which the plastic screws engage. Can't see anything in the EPC, sorry.

The fuel pump saga
Well after all the searching, i went and purchased another pair of Bosch fuel pumps.. 1 they have a lifetime warranty ..And 2 the company i purchased them from are in Germany.
I notice on the new pumps had this app mark etched in to the body of the pump .
Old fuel pumps did not have this mark ..see pic
After they were fitted i drove up to the garage for more fuel and it went like new . .
So time will tell ....The ones removed had been on the car 6 months i have a warranty claim to fill in now before i can return them .

To be fair those QR code markings are a relatively recent addition? The old ones that were in the car from new obviously wouldn’t have had those either! :)

So it’s a question of whether the other replacement pumps are original or counterfeit/copy parts - they could have just original but new old stock?

Taking back what i said about the etched mark ,,looking at the old ones we just pulled out , they too have the same mark . They were new in 2021 but never fitted them until last year .,,but i think i found the problem ..the none return valve on one of them was loose and the rubber insulation had cracked open in a few places on the bottom .. I never put these pumps in last yeasr .Car was stuck on the drive ,and a no starter ..i had a local mobile mechanic come and fit them ...bad idea , but i was unable to do the myself at the time. In doing the job ha bropke off a retaining stud that holds the pump splash cover ..and because i fitted a pair of insulation sleeves he had trouble pulling the pump cage together to put the bolt in , so he cable tied it closed ..I have more nuts and bolts in my garage, so why he never asked me for one i dont know , i even had him back to check his work ,,,said all was well , and no leaks ... Moral of the story is --if you can do the job dont let others do it for you ..
