Wheel wax

Try just wax, then try wax and wheel sealant - I did and the results are tangible.

@ zoros. I can't see what is wrong with a technical discussion regarding the merits of various products. Afterall, the posts are appearing in a sub-forum in the Technical section of the board. If the thread offends your sensibilities why not simply skip over it rather than disrespect your fellow forumites who are interested in discussing a topic at a more intellectual level than you are comfortable with. If somebody has dropped £50k on acquiring a prestige marque perhaps the cost of the detailing products is not of primary importance. Maybe they have visited the Detailing section to acquire knowledge or deisseminate it for the collective benefit of others. To avoid any embarassment, you may do well to heed Mark Twain who was attributed with the quote: "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Just saying....:dk:

Well said!!

Whats wrong with standard run of the mill halfords wax? Nothing lasts forever with keeping wheels clean because of the conditions they live in, so polish every so often dependent on your wear and taear rate and voila, clean and shiny wheels. £50 for this tub, £28 for that tub then a sealant on top and four hours polishing, blah blah. Load of tosh. :wallbash:

I generally feel the same way about all matters "detailing" but I have to say Gtechniq's C5 wheel sealant was a revelation.

My MB has quite plain 5 spoke wheels but two of our cars have 10 and 12 spoke wheels with tight spacing and they're a right pain to clean. Once they've got C5 on them you can literally just wave a hose pipe at them and they're clean.

I don't know ho long it's supposed to last but it's been on for a couple of years and seems to clean up as well now as when first applied.

Rory, if this stuff is so "maintenance-free", in that you can get it clean with just a hosing-down, why can't we use it on th ebodywork?

After-all, it's just a paint finish, same as the wheels....

Bigging up the C5 alot. Might have to try this Gtech C5 when my tub of rim wax runs out :thumb:

I put sonax BSD on my wheels last time I waxed them and I must say I didn't notice any improvement :D

Only joking it made cleaning the brake dust off much easier than without a coat of sealer :bannana:

You can. I think the bodywork version has a different number but people reckon it's the same stuff.

They also do another version - ceramic something or other.

It probably is - lacquer over paint on alloy isn't really any different to the same over fibreglass or metal bodywork.

There are clear benefits to using these types of specialist product, if they are made for the job (resisting high temperatures, metal particles etc). Some are so high end they are more versatile.

CarPro CQuartz DLUX - just arrived and applying to16" winter wheels prior to W/e switch over. Hopefully enough to treat my 17" AMG wheels once cleaned and inspected.
Will provide a status update on use of CarPro CQuartz DLUX after several weeks/washes.
Cheers, Tony

Because wax is just going to attract debris, and brake dust.

Poorboys wheel sealant costs 13quid. hardly braking the bank.

I did all 4 wheels last weekend as well as cleaned the wheel arches, suspension and brake calipers. How do you guys apply the sealant?

The criticisms remind me of my long-departed Railway Engineer father, who used to occasionally "polish" his metallic Renault 16 with chrome polish. "Brings it up a treat" he used to say.

"Nooooooooo..........."

The other obvious point to make, is that cleansing, sealing and protecting are all very well, but it is important to actually wash the dang thing just occasionally. The caked in Range Rover look from November to February is all very well, but it's not a "protective layer"

Currently running this, will get hosepipe out at weekend... hoping it protects against speed cameras though...

I think you're trying to cause mischief on here.
