Wheels in Motion again!

its nothing to do with you mate... Its a whole issue around advertising that is being negotiated at the moment..

Someone reccommended my business the other day but my business name gets blanked out automatically whereas when most other busineses get recommended its ok.

Im peeved that the mods havent "de profanitised" my name yet.

Reads a bit harsh but i have to be impartial here since i don't know all the details.

The MB being the type of marque it is i would think most members have some form of buisness.... The MB is hardly a Chav motor.

Before i distile this thread to much i just want to explain to the mods it is headed "wheels-inmotion" and by invitation i replied to the thread, yes i'm a buisness and no i didn't offer services/ prices/ products during my posts so i'm hardly trading.

Noted and understand the circumstance. We are in a period of transition currently hence a few temporary issues.

Drive better?

Wheel In-Motion

My Mercedes C200k Estate 06 pulled to the left and the problem was severe. I took the car to an independent Mercedes specialist for a complete geometry alignment. It failed to fix the problem. Cost about £300

I then took my car to my local Mercedes dealer - the approach taken there was rather surprising. Rather than trying to understand the problem they elected to treat the symptoms - Mercedes pushed all settings to the maximum so the car would steer to the right. This approach created all sorts of other problems amongst other things imprecise driving and failed to fix the problem. Cost about £400

At this point, I was getting very concerned as to whether the problem could ever be fixed without having to spend thousands of pounds. So I decided to take the 5 hours round trip to Wheel in-motion - after all everyone seems to agree WIM are the best in the UK and at this point I have nothing to loose anyway.

I met Tony at WIN to whom I explained the problem and I took the time to share my theory about the problem (my theory is wrong by the way). Tony was very attentive to the details and then asked that I place my car on the Hawkeye (an amasing piece of kit!!) so that he can assess the situation in greater details. What we saw was the Job Mercedes had done ... in short it was an horror story and in violation of Mercedes own tolerances. This explained why I did not get a printout from Mercedes for this job.

Tony took everything back to the basic, standard and recommended settings as the first step. The Drive Test confirmed the issue, the car pulled to the left. I was again very concerned as my expectation was this machine does everything for you. plug-in the number and of you go.

Well, there is no magic!

This is when I started to understand why Tony is so good. The first step wasn't trying to fix the problem but rather create a framework of reference for Tony to understand what forces are applied to the chassis of my car under different conditions/settings. Tony was applying a methodical approach to the problem, removing 1 road block at a time.

Well guess what !! no surprised he cracked it. My Car is now a pleasure to drive.

Bottom line, there is no magic. If your car pulls to the left it can be fixed, Tony can fix it (i have no shares in WIM by the way :).

To get the right geometry/balance you need the kit, the knowledge but was have a right mind set. Tony said to me whilst he was investigating the issue... I have not yet failed and we won't stop until we have fixed your car. Well you have it, Tony is not only professional, he also takes pride in his work. This is why WiM will fixed your problem not because there is so magic.

Good luck, don't waste time and money, speak to WIM now if your Mercedes pulls to the left.

John

I'll be doing exactly that this weekend! They cured my lowered Bora V6's geometry issues and I've no doubt my pulling-to-the-left Merc will be cured too...

Also another recommendation for them, something like 63 quid to sort out my Golf (which has Mk3 bits on a Mk2 chassis, so kudos) and £30 because my Merc was already well within tolerance.

Spoke to Tony at WIM last week who gave me no end of useful, practical help as to how or what might be causing my "drifting" issues. A more helpful, patient man you could not find.
Thanks again Tony.:thumb:

Blimey i'm getting embaressed with all these testomonials.....

I think Admin are going to shoot me down anytime soon but i can assure them i am only replying to the thread, not trading, we are busy enough as it is.

The problem with John's car was typical, it had some "pre-wim" distress that needed to be removed, namely the aggressive settings MB had implanted, once removed the problem remained but now it was just the pull not the overall handling, we advanced the (sacrificial angles) to belay the pull but the problem still remained, so these angles where advanced further and the complaint was dissolved.

Geometrically blanket bombing the chassis is obviously wrong and since the MB issue is unique for that particular example there's not an absolute template available, so in this instance small incremental changes where required to stop the pull.

In truth i really enjoyed the calibration, it needed looking outside of the box and some mental arguments to resolve the pull but it worked!!

I have had trouble with my W210 pulling to the left. Having read a lot about WIM on this site and looking at their website I made a 300 mile round trip. I really had high hopes and thought that now my car would be finally sorted. They are a professional organisation. They put my car up on Hawkeye and made a reading. Surprise of surprises, it showed that there was nothing wrong with the tracking. In addition, the car already had the tracking bolts installed and it was suggested that someone had tried to remedy this problem before.

In short they were unable to explain why my car pulled so much. I was charged £30.00 for use of the readings. That's OK I guess.

I've posted earlier about this problem and I said I would get back to the forum following my visit to WIM. Although I went to WIM in March 09, I didn't report back as I hadn't had my problem diagnosed. On seeing this thread today I thought I should share my experiences.

I am basically back to square one. Any ideas anyone?

If you can come back then book in and i'll address this for free, labour, calibration, bolts.... It's in my interest to know why you still have an issue so please if you can book in.

Thanks very much for your kind offer. I shall see when I can book in. It's no wonder you have such a good reputation. Hope this gets sorted.

Just taken my CLK500 Convertible to WIM for 2 new rear tyres and wheel alignment. They also rebalanced the 2 front wheels to cure vibration at motorway speeds.

Car feels much better now...totally different!! It feels much more positive and "planted" than it did and drives much better and smoother....annoying vibration at 70mph has now also gone. Wish I had had this work carried out 6 months ago when I bought the car!!

This is the 2nd Merc that WIM have sorted for me...both times have noted an improvement in the way the car drives.

The car still has a problem! so we are not finished... Book her in and let us dissolve the complaint.

Hi Tony, is this further work you're doing after fitting a set of properly matched new tyres on the front? I got the impression after our chat there isn't anything left to do other than fit new tyres to cure my particular pulling problem. :thumb:

FH don't hesitate to let Tony know how you feel about your car also after the drive test(s). Remember it is an effort of calibration and it could take more than 1 go to get all those parameters in harmony. You are the only one who will recognise the sign(s)/issue(s) that have bothered you. Your feedback is essential to the investigation and eventually to fix the problem with your car.

Good Luck,
John

If the problem is pneumatic then applying aggressive chassis positions is not wise but saying that if there's still an issue we need to continue applying answers... The MB is a complicated lady so we constantly need to look outside of the box, this costs nothing more than your time.
