Which wax / sealer??

Hi guys,
I didn't realise cleaning and polishing was so dynamic... and really worth learning about.

I have a ML55 AMG in Obsidian Black. 'Obsidian' isn't in my dictionary so I don't know what it means. My missus says it is more blue than black, but what the hell, it looks great.

After reading some of the threads on here I feel perhaps I've wasted time and energy washing and polishing my car (even though it looks good).

Like millions of other car owners, I used Fairy liquid in a bucket of hot water and sponged my car, washing it off with my hose. I then leathered it with a chamois and when it dried I worked on scratches with T-cut. I then applied Autoglym car polish and used metal polish on the shiny bits. I hand polished it twice over and dry polished it next day with clean muslim-cloth. It looks great, but to get it really good it looks like I need to get a wax like Dodo juice blue velvet and maybe treat it with something else before applying it? Advice here will be appreciated. Oh, and where do I get it from?
Chris.

Your biggest mistake is using Fairy liquid, one of the worst things to wash a car with, cheapo shampoo from Halfords is far better.

You will need as a starting point,
A good PH neutral car shampoo,
2 buckets (with grit guards if you want/need)
wash mit (make and type of your own liking)
Drying towels (waffle or microfibre)
A polish of your choice (with applicators of your choice)
And a wax again of your choice and deepness of pockets!
microfibres to remove polish and wax (you can never have too many)

thats without detailing brushes for wheels etc
Clay bars.........but you will decide if you want to go that far in your own time ! just enjoy doing it or Dont do it...

Tony.

Detailing brushes can be had at Poundland! £1 for 6 different size paint brushes-little ones for dusting airvents and big ones for aggitating cleaners on heat shields and exhaust systems!

Hi guys,
.............polished it next day with clean muslim-cloth. ........
This could be considered a racially motivated action, I would use a muslin cloth to be safe :D

I've just finished a tub of Autoglym HD wax, which seems quite good

Yep
know that feeling soooo many polishes and waxes that you want to try and then realise that its going to cost you loads and so many toys to play with

Uh oh, fairy liquid? Yes it lasts forever but your paint wont.
