What's so bad about Mercedes Direct? I found mine on eBay (but completed the transaction as a standard private sale). The chap whom I bought it from had obtained it from Mercedes Direct 10 months/3k miles previous. He gave me his invoice - I paid him 5k less than he had bought it for...but he had spent a princely sum on fitting AMG bumpers, 18" wheels and other bits.

This sums up one of their problems - overpriced.

When I was looking for my E-class, I enquired about a car Merc Direct had and I explained what options I 'needed'. They called me down to look at a car which, before I went I knew was £6,000 over budget despite being 6 months old with 10,000 on the clock. Over the phone they gave me the firm impression that they were very willing to do a deal on the price and would fit the options I wanted, so I popped down. After a 5-minutes round the block it turns out no such deal was forthcoming and that they were only going to give me bottom book for my C-class as a trade in. Maybe they get commission for test-drives rather than sales?

I eventually found the car I wanted (1 month old, 300 miles on the clock) at the price I wanted to pay at a main Merc dealer who also gave me a good trade-in figure on my old car. Good service, although still waiting for the boot liner to appear.

My CLK was very competetively priced from MB Direct Manchester, equivalent to private sales of similar spec/miles but with a warranty!. They have provided an excellent service so far (I have had it in for a couple of problems) and I cannot fault them (yet).

Dealer or direct

My C180 was bought new at the local dealers, who matched the best broker price, and my E220 CDI was from Direct and 5 months old.
I thought they had made a mistake with the price as it was '000s under similar cars, and they gave me what I would have put my p/ex up for privatly.

So either way I have been happy. But they still need servicing.....
