Who uses ‘V-Power Diesel’....

I have been running mine on Vpower for the last 3yrs and now and then I would run a tank of the normal stuff. What I seem to find is that on the normal fuel the car is a little louder and a bit sluggish. When I swap back to the good stuff the car seems to run much better and pulls a lot better but is it really just in the mind because you expect it to be better............

My daily car has for last 2 years been very economical (almost 80mpg average) 3 cylinder polo 1.4tdi. I do 3 days of 15 miles there 15 miles back, and 3 days of 50 miles there 50 miles back. I use shell only because it's always on my route. I get 630 miles per tank normally using the standard diesel but actually get less, usually closer to 550 if I use the v-power diesel. Why this is I do not know, but in the last few months I have been trying a bit of 2-stroke oil in with standard diesel. fuel economy is improved but not by enough to be worth messing with, but it does feel and sound much better.

Yup, I always use premium fuels. The difference in smoothness is most notable in the Golf. Normal diesel makes it sound ticky but, the premium diesel really makes it smooth.

Which engine? Wife has a Tiguan with the latest EA288 150PS engine. Apart from its first tankful, it's only ever been run on V-Power as she only uses a tankful a month and the emissions system on the car terrifies me! Apparently V-Power makes it regen less often.

If V-Power makes it smooth I'd hate to try it without!

What do you call a bit ?

Then there's 2-EHN !
About 60ml usually to 43l of fuel. Tried that cetane booster but I couldn’t tell any difference and it smelt awful, so didn’t want to deal with it again. Stuff I tried was NBS-LAKI I believe, normally used for boosting cetane numbers in home brew bio-fuel. It smells like rotten fish.

Mine is a 2012 car with 79k on it. I run it on any premium diesel not solely VPower. Can’t say the emissions have ever been flagged and I actually don’t even know when it regens. It is noticeably more rattly on normal diesel. It’s never had any dpf, injector issues at all. Why don’t you stick some normal stuff in yours just as an experiment?

2ehn , gets rid of the rattle, especially in winter time. ive only been using it for 12 years .

I think the point of this thread was to discuss the differences/advantages of premium diesel...
I certainly can’t be bothered to be adding ratios of additives every tank ;) but I’m just lazy... 🤣

wondering if using premium fuels has an advantage effect on engine oil ?

A bit of a long read but results suggest that adding 2 Stroke oil to Diesel is not a good idea.

Got to love these 'white papers' again flawed due to the wrong spec , JASO FB low ash mineral is what is used by those in the know.

I've been using it around 6 years .

Guess what my 18 year old near 190K 1.9 tdi blew for it's test the other day ?

Give Opie oils a call for their advice .

A head gasket?

You'd think if there was tangible evidence for this that the fuel vendores would shout it from the rooftops.

So my guess is that when you fill up with 'standard' then apart from the change in fill habit there is some other change to your routine.

Getting rigorous results from real world consumption tests is surprisingly difficult.

A few short journeys added to a routine that normally involves only longer ones can impact on that 'per tank' range by a noticeable percentage whereyou have been getting very good figures through journey paterns that are optimal. Then there is weather and predominant winds. And there is also the switch in the supply of diesel over the spring and autumn between the winter and summer concoctions.

With one of my cars I would get a +/- 2% variation in mpg when I used it on patterns involving only 20+ mile journeys. If SWMBO borrowed my car for just a few short journeys between refills then I'd see a something like +10% increase in overall consumption.

It wasn't a test on Mercedes engines per se so the results were accurate within context.

Your anecdotal "evidence" isn't proof.

The test showed the effect on a diesel engine after the addition of two stroke oil.

That was validated for that setup during that test.

Halved my smoke opacity test on the high mileage Euro 3 .

I wasn't looking at the time until the May 2018 plate values came into swing then I looked back at the previous test results .

I have actually never bothered to check f I get more or less miles per tank. I fill the Golf up once a month with premium and get between. 450/500 miles a tank. I do it purely for engine smoothness..... and, I opted not to buy a petrol.

Same here, I use premium fuel instead of pouring-in bottles of additives into the tank when filling-up. Personally, I don't want to be 'raped at the pumps'... so I avoid anything that requires bending-over.

How low is your fuel filler and what sort of "filling station" are you frequenting. 🤔😂
