Who uses ‘V-Power Diesel’....

Just to pour fuel (high quality) on the flames, I refer you to the Nikasil liner issue of several years ago where BMW's in particular were dissolved from the inside by "poor quality" fuel. Just Google Nikasil liners.

Now you could view this as proof that poor quality fuel can exist and therefore low cost fuel should be avoided.(low cost =poor quality)

Or you could take the view that certain standard fuel had additives that hadn't been fully tested (in this case, sulphur), resulting in BMWs dissolving. Therefore anything with a non-standard additive should be avoided
Either way, some BMWs were removed from the gene pool, so not all bad!

As has been shown low price does not equal low quality in the UK.

All base fuel is made to the same British Standard

Therefore the price point a retailer choses to place the product at has no bearing on the quality.

The Nikasil issue affected BMW badly but also Jaguar and Porsche but was I believe more prominent in America where Sulphur content in fuel (regardless of price) was higher?

Getting a bit bonkers now

It is , i filled the Cayenne today with V Pwr diesel , £136 before the pump clicked off

Last time it was filled was around eight weeks ago and we have had around a 5% increase in the price since then , backed up by the old receipt which i always keep just incase there is an issue with the fuel.

Just hope this 5% increase over eight weeks doesn`t continue , but i think it will - unfortunately

So are fuel additives pointless if using one of the premium blends?

This depends on whether the additives are expensive or not - and I have no idea if the price of the additives has a significant impact of the overall fuel price. But in theory at least, it is possible that more expensive fuels contain more expensive ('better'?) additives.

The other question is are they needed in a modern high efficiency engine, or will normal fuel with a certain degree of additives suffice.
What is the local taxi driver using on his 200,000, mile Merc.

I would say Yes.
We that's what I was thinking, where would it stop if additives do help? Do you just keep adding stuff to the tank?

That's another point, are they even needed?

Gets interesting as an impending MOT change looms in May meaning the smoke opacity test will have to go by the manufacturers smoke opacity coefficient figure found on the main VIN sticker .

This is an unfair 0.60 for the year and a fail , I'm in trouble considering 2T has already halved my smoke opacity test .

So I have to look elsewhere and find it , the thermostat !
Thermostat renewed and 2T is still continued.

Well, whether they are needed or not, either way I don't think they are needed twice....
