W209 CLK55 AMG (stripped out) - gone :(
Curious. How much is a new windscreen? I know these things are normally covered by insurance policies but I'm looking at a policy that does not include windscreen cover (trackday car cover - limited mileage, any mods).

Mega bucks I would think, the rear screen on my SL's hardtop cost £750 from MB, Autoglass had to buy it from them....

Might be less than that. Get a price from a local specialist - even MB branded glass isn't always that expensive for the mainstream models. I had a new front screen ordered in for one of my old W202s a few years back, no more than a few hundred fitted (£300 or so).

Double-glazed glass, or special applications might be dear, but a W209 windscreen shouldn't be horrendous.

I phoned MB last year when mine was cracked, almost sure it was over £500 ( without fitting ) against a £70 excess insurance claim which does not affect no claims or future premiums. No brainer for me.

£223.20 inc VAT courtesy of inchcape.

EDIT: Just looked up all of the screens to see if there is a difference, none of them were more than £240 (not sure of the differences, codes indicate minor variations by chassis number).

As Shude, MB prices range from £224 - £245 depending on VIN

cool. so £500 worst case, hopefully less. Not the grand I was worried about.

Should be loads less than that, £220ish for a genuine M-B supplied screen, most insurers use Autoglass and the like who'll provide their own glass at a fraction of the cost.

I expect one of the local glass fitters would do you a screen supplied and fitted for £300 or less if you shop around.

I had a r129 screen fitted for £135.
