Does anyone know anything about this game?

Darling son is desperate to have it only me being a Yorkshire lass and all that refuses to pay for discs then a monthly fee to play it. A friend has lent him his discs as there is a 14 day trial you can get but I can't for the life of me work out how he can get it. It seems to need the authentication key off the box which of course his mate has used.

I need to know do we have to buy the discs or can we get an authentication key from somewhere else. The website is so complex. I'm not a total numpty - but this has me beat.

TIA

The chances are that the copy your son has obtained, even if it is a genuine copy will be registered to is friend. You will need the activation key which will be printed inside the game box or on the manual. World of Warcraft has got a cult following world wide, largely amongst teens who live in their bedrooms with the curtains tightly shut.

Here is a video from WoW which has gained cult status on the net:

So can he use the same activation key without it mucking it up for his friend?

I'm not sure to be honest, it may muck his friends account up if he still uses it himself.

These games normally let you install them without causeing a problem so using the activation key will not stop his friend using it. As the cd key will have already been used to create an account he will not be able to play unless his friend allows him to log into and create a charector on his account.

I suggest you buy him a copy of Guildwars which is the same type of on-line game but without a monthly fee.

Haha, sorry about that. I knew there would be a WoW player here I'd be bound to offend! :D

No offence taken :) I don't play WoW as I don't have the time to justify paying a monthly fee.

If you have the time I reackon £10 a month is not too bad given the hours you would spend playing, most activities like badminton, cinema etc cost about £5 an hour.

I used to play a lot of Starwars Galaxies (another MMORPG like WoW) and my only tip is to be careful you don't get sucked in! It's a major time-sink as you'll find yourself logged in all hours and in my case only log off at 4am when the server is rebooted daily!

*Caution: habit forming!*

As Peter suggests, get a Guild-Wars account. You can pick up a Guild Wars (1st campaign) for £9.99 at Game (saw that today!), and with the second capaign for 30£ odd.... The best part is that there are no monthly fees ;)

Peter, do you play GW? If so, add Spinal The Healer to your friends list ;) (I have some other chars, but I;m working on getting my monk suited with FoW armour. Atm I have a black set of 15K from the granite citadel (if I remember correctly) and a cheapo drak set up for 55hp farming... (other chars are N/Me(20), W/MO(10 pre-searing, and planning to stay there :p)

Is there a hidden merc guild I didn't know about? :p

Now that Mercedes is going over to WisNet, an internet version of WIS, maybe there will be a mushroom effect on modders addicted to online versions of wiring diagrams.

I have a lvl 20 Ele/Monk and lvl 13 Monk/Ranger, my wifes got a lvl 20 W/Mo.

I have added you to my Friends list, my main charector is Wandera Wildfire

I am having problems getting anywhere in Guild Wars. I'm a W/E level 19 nearly 20 and I can't seem to make big money. What is the secret:confused:

Hurrah, at last something I can give an informed answer to :)

Warning WoW is SERIOUSLY addictive

Warning there is a new expansion due out in a few months called Burning Crusade which will cost another £20. In any event you will need a new game box for WoW containing a unique serial number to register your account - you can transfer your trial character onto this account if you want to.

Warning the monthly subscription is £7-£8 depending on what period you pre-pay (up to 6 months by credit card)

Best server choice for your 10 days (not 14 - only 14 day trials on US servers I'm afraid) "Lightbringer".

Make sure they choose a PvE Server (Player V Environment) Rather than PvP (Player V Player) server for the trial otherwise likely to be squished by subscribed players.

Despite the posts above Guild Wars is IMHO frankly rubbish when compared to the WoW environment but GW doesn't have a subscription base so it is per hour of gaming a lot cheaper.

Pammy - good advice here. I'm a regular WoW player (on Moonglade realm) and as pointed out above, it is highly addictive and time consuming. I'm currently a lvl 54 NightElf Hunter for anyone who is interested!! WoW really is the pinnacle, but yes, watch out for the new major expansion soon. There normally is a guest pass key with the set of installation discs, but if that has been used already it won't work again AFAIK.

It's the best fantasy RP on-line game by far (apart from other major on-line games such as HalfLife/2 and Counter-Strike etc); but then I would say that wouldn't I, in justifying my subscription!

Hope son enjoys it if it all goes ahead ;)

Thanks guys - he has subscribed don't know what to - hope it is along the lines you suggest!! Will try and see how he's doing in a bit to make sure he has done the right thing!

Don't do it. Believe me. Ye'll never see him again :-(

Pammy,

I have at times had to physically remove the cable modem to keep my eldest son off WoW. During the summer holidays he nearly became nocturnal.

It can be addictive and I was really unhappy to find he had been buying (for real money) game gold to assist his progess on top of the monthly subs. I know little about the detail of this but as far as I can gather until you reach a certain level you are just fodder and can do little.

Part of the attraction is that he plays with his local and internet mates and natters away via a VOIP headset. Which I suppose keeps him off the streets but is a huge time theif.

He is now a Level 60 Mage which is something to be proud of apparently. But I wish he had never taken it up.

S.
