Would this be a poor buy? C63 content

Thanks! I have PM’d you.

In C63 related news- I contacted Lockton (who insured my E63 for ~£600) for a quote on the C63 and they came back with £2,000, no discount possible.

Does the MB UK membership insurance give a decent price for these cars? I’m a member but have never tried it/don’t know how to try it.

Blimey!

Did they give any indication why ?

Skd884- Mercedes Benz Club UK officially endorse Confused dot com rather than having a relationship such as the Porsche Club GB has with Lockton?

Chap said they had had some claims on the policy so it had got more expensive.

Being having similar issues when getting a quote on the PPP car in the classifieds.

Just to say I know of Dammit through one of the Porsche forums.

He seems to have slowed down a lot with posting lately but he was online earlier this week.

Hope all is well

Will is correct - I moved to Singapore in May 2023, which has been quite interesting.

I'm now thinking about buying an AMG Estate again, and whilst looking for a C63 this caught my eye: Mercedes E63 for sale in Surrey | R & W Motor Company

It's got all the toys - and I'd like radar cruise as my intention would be to drive to Briancon from London. Terrible idea?

A car like that, in a journey like that, sounds like a great idea to me.

Looking at that history and spec, go for it.

The price? You're not actually buying Ross Brawn...

Then again, if you want and can afford it, why not? You can only buy what's available when you're looking.

What would a fair price in today’s market be?

I’ve lost touch with things in the UK out here- where a Honda N Box costs $160,000.

Difficult to say, but a 2010 E63 with an M156 isn't worth almost £24k IMO. Maybe £18/19k.
I saw that car last August at Beaulieu on a Mercedes GTG and it was for sale back then at a similarly high price.
The Ross Braun connection makes it no more desirable IMO.
You could get a Biturbo M157 car on a 13/14 plate for that money.
Unless you really want a n/a 6.2 instead of a 5.5 Biturbo.

I had a bi-turbo 5.5 previously and did want to try the 6.2 NA, so that’s a plus point.

I was actually looking for a C63 estate but stumbled on that E63 and have been thinking about it due to the Distronic- which may make many shake their heads, but all the C63 currently for sale seem to be Speedtronic.

Anything to look out for?
I know you had the 212 5.5 E63 before, but did you remember that the seats are uncomfortable? Might be a problem if you’re intending to use it for long journeys :)

The 6.2 is a great sounding and characterful engine, but quite a different driving experience in terms of power delivery to the 5.5BT. I would recommend owning one though - it’s not a case of one being better than the other, just different really.

The car looks tidy. It’s possibly in the range of M156 engine numbers pre the revised head bolts. My old one was an ‘11 plate and was okay but this is a year earlier so possibly not. Not the end of the world but worth being aware of nonetheless.

Price wise, it’s difficult. It’s an old car now and the mileage is quite low for its age. But I remember when I bought mine with just 11k miles and it wasn’t an awful lot more expensive than this either and that was probably 6 years ago now. Prices have firmed up/stabilised though on these sorts of cars I guess.

Probably worth a thorough inspection if you do decide to buy, and check the rear subframe as well (you had that too on your 203 didn’t you! :))

Interestingly (to me, anyway!) I think it’s not the seats per se- I think it’s the offset steering wheel making me twist when I’m driving with one hand. When I drove to Scotland and Morzine it was ok- I think because I got settled in and kept two hands lightly on the wheel with my back square to the seat. But- still a theory, and it’s definitely in my mind.

As I said - I was looking for a C63 which doesn’t have the offset wheel.

It sounds like the car has been for sale for a while and (from what I hear from Singapore!) values are softening in the UK, maybe they would take an offer? Unknown, but as has been pointed out- you can only buy what’s available.

If anyone has a C63 with Distronic and would like to sell it or has what they consider to be a better 6.2 E63 please speak up!

I did indeed have to get a rear subframe repaired- not keen on doing that again as it was not cheap.

In terms of headbolts how would I establish whether the engine in RB10 AMG are the revised versions (or not)?
