Would you buy a car from a trader who had more than one really poor review

Ended up in court where dealer lost and was ordered to reimburse customer.

He never did comply with court order.
Threatened to wind up the company and/or bankrupt himself.
Now I know that you can get it checked out beforehand, but would you buy a 20K car from someone like this?
I wouldn't be remotely inclined to risk any of my hard earned doing business with an individual or company under these circumstances.

There will always be negative feedback about businesses, but unless the complainant is an utter fantasist, the clue that they are best avoided is the use of intimidation and failing to comply with a court order.

That is not the behaviour of someone you should touch with a bargepole.

You needn't read beyond this post. ^

I sell to people, lots of people.

Every now and again you get an odd customer, it's part of business. But as a business you expect it and you refund them in full to go away and not cause any complications.

Anyone that ignores court orders or "send someone round" is not a straight business person.

Depends on how much feedback. One unhappy/disgruntled/vindictive customer out of many maybe? Unfair or dishonest feedback is possible.

That said, be careful, HPI properly and check the car very carefully and thoroughly, and say why. Any doubts, then walk. There are plenty of cars to buy.

Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. You can't have any confidence that problems will be sorted so leave well alone. If he ignores court orders then any requests from you will be treat with even more contempt

Vaguely related...

When searvhing high and low for my C55 estate I went to visit one at an 'at home' trader, lots of cars, clearly and openly selling from home, he said 'no comeback' and the price was right for a private sale whish is how I considered it given the no comeback status. Good car, was considering it, booked a full inspection. Checked with a police mate who suggested checking with trading standards too, which I did. All good. Then he put the price up by a grand and started mithering about the inspection. Walked.

Found a better car at a really friendly and helpful independent dealer who DID sort out a problem when it emerged.

Was soooo glad I walked when the guy started being tricky, 'your' dealer has already shown himself to be on the very wrong side of dogdy.

Right decision to leave the dodgy dealer fight another day!

How long will it take you to earn another 20k to spend on a car if this one turns out to be a lemon? If it all goes pear shaped it sounds like you would have to be prepared to blowtorch his face off to get your money back. Whilst that might happen in a Tarantino movie I suspect, like me, you would rather not follow that course of action. Walk and tell us all the company name whilst you are at it please.

Much as I like the idea of a no-comeback deal, it being one decided between the two parties alone, no vendor can opt out of the Sale of Goods Act and related legislation. So whatever they say about trade terms, no comeback, sold as seen, etc etc, if you are a private customer buying a car worth (I think this is the cut-off) £2000 or more, any trader telling you any of the above is seeking to avoid his liabilities under the law.

I am currently having a fight about something sold to me that was defective from the first time it was used, and the amount of deliberate attempts to evade liability by the retailer is both irritating and depressing. My experience last year of buying lots of kit for a house being redeveloped is simple - they only want to know you just before you pay for it, and faults afterwards, tough, at which point you get treated as though you have threatened their first born by seeking your rights, however politely. Moral of story, deal with someone who has a reputation they wish to protect.

You already have a significantly fast car. Get in it..... and drive as far and as fast away from this guy as possible....make sure you still have the 20k in the back because he will try and take it off you.

I wouldn't say a definitive NO, but I would tread carefully.

There are plenty of good dealers who deserve the business - so no, I wouldn't go near that rse.

I should maybe add that this guy seems to have about half a million pounds worth of vehicles in stock. Can't all be bad surely? Yes,I know,it's my call!

Good criminals are unlikely to be poor...

The half a million value may well be owed to someone else ie the Bank, with shaped pears you would be at the back of the queue. Look elsewhere, there are plenty of cars around.

Yep many dealers work on unit stocking loans... They are an expensive way to buy stock but very popular now..

Most main dealers take advantage of stocking loans too...

I won't make this a long post on a Saturday evening,so,to précis:
Trader has a car I like. A little google research brings up(in the first three results) a disappointed customer(not the only one). Seems he bought a car(and not a cheap one) that had a bucket full of problems. Tried to resolve with dealer who wasn't having it and even sent someone round to try and intimidate him. Ended up in court where dealer lost and was ordered to reimburse customer. He never did comply with court order. Threatened to wind up the company and/or bankrupt himself.

No.

Find a car (assuming a Mercedes) at Mercland.

So many members on here go to this vendor for a reason. Decent cars, proper after sales service that would shame a dealer and the proprietor of that business is an established member here.

Firstly i think your mad for even writing this post and or even thinking of buying a car from someone who "sends someone round" let alone the other issues they had.

secondly (and i dont know what car u were going to buy) but 20k will get you a LOT of motor there are always other cars, theres not always another 20k unless thats pocket change to you. which it could well be.

either way id defo go and find another car from another dealer! which im sure is what your planning on doing.. isnt it ;)

good luck with your search (are u going to tell us what it was you were looking at?????) :D
