Wrong reg number on my car.

Thanks for the link Dippo.

Just entered the old reg (HJ16) into search. 'No results found'

Entered new reg (HF16) into search. 'RFL expires March 2017'

So it seems V5 & road tax are fine.

It's just actual reg plate, my insurance, gap insurance, MBFS & lease company to inform.

Cheers to all who posted. :thumb:

Plate and Insurance are number one items to sort then to get it legal on the road. Others can be done following that.

Says a lot for ANPR checks then!

Trust me if ANPR had any information the police would of been up his rear within seconds. I had bad road rage about 2 month ago, my reg was reported. Few days later I drove past a patrol car and he turned around and pulled me over straight away. Strange really why nothing showed up

The vehicle is on the road according to the record held at the DVLA.
As has been said, it's on the road with an incorrect registration plate.

From my experience if you get anyone from DVLA or VSA or even the police involved you're on your own. ;)
I know of past instances of the VSA declaring vehicles off the road for the same thing.

Now if you're ok with getting a sensible police that's ok, in my experience it can be a lottery & many will say "computer says".

Just because it's not your fault, is clearly a clerical error is really not an excuse to continue to drive the vehicle until it's sorted.

We had a car at work where the number plate on the back was correct - matched the log book, the tax disc etc. However the plate on the front was out by one character. It was like that for 12 months. We only spotted it when the new tax disc came through. Dealer error - presumably there was a twin out there with the opposite problem!

Unless you got an absolute idiot of a copper then I would be highly surprised at any implications. There's been no illegal action on the part of Happytalk what so ever. A genuine mistake has been noticed & the appropriate action has been put in place to solve the issue without unnecessary costs.

If anything illegal had gone on with the plates that's on the car now, I'm sure it would catch up with Happytalk eventually once the situation had been solved.
In my opinion any sensible police officer would give you a week to solve the problem like they have done with people I know who for instance have had lights out etc.

Unfortunately as the law stands, Ignorance is no defence, and the fact it has been posted on here, he knows he is not legal.

So the question is how MB Poole managed to "make up" a registration number which did not agree with the vehicle details? I bought my MB from MB in Salisbury which I believe is part of the same group. I have a personalised plate which begins G4 *** they sorted out all the transfer for me and then proceeded to fix a plate to the car which did not end with the same 3 letters, if fact they had a plate with G4 and the same last three letters as the previous plate. They went back to the workshop and reproduced the correct plate. It does make me wonder.

Don't panic Geoff. :D

All sorted as from today. :thumb:

The V5, road tax, MBFS contract, contractcars.com are all showing the same reg no. HF16

The only things needed changing was:

The number plate (FOC)
Car Insurance (£25)
GAP Insurance. (£0)

Got a Nice Valet & a couple of MB F1 baseball caps for a treat.
