Hi im looking to buy a 59 plate c220d Sport, Im wanting to know if Xenon's can be fitted to it plus the day time running lights.
Can someone advise pls

There is no official retro-fit for DRL (yet) and retro-fitting xenons is likely to be expensive ~£2k

Thanks, but too much £ I guess, do you know if the day time running lights could be retro fitted ?

There was a post from another guy who bought the DRLs and fitted them himself, in place of the fogs. Only problem was they would just flash on and off. The car needs to know DRLs are fitted and that means recoding (the front SAM probably) and the only people able to do that (on current models) is the dealership. MB have to provide an online password to enable the functions.

The model is still quite young. I imagine retro-fits will become available in time.

Thanks again for the the info.

A bit off topic but now there actually is an MB official retrofit kit for LED DRLs for a W204. Unfortunately (in my opinion at least) these are "just" an add-on at the front instead of a modified fog light/DRL combination like the one from Carlsson.

From WIS one can find the retrofit instructions from the document AZ8210P0020CW.

Thanks for the picture, they do look as thou somone has just stuck them onto the spolier to me an after thought.
I had phoned the local MB dealer today to find they would charge £600 to fit and set up !!!
Now I've seen a picture of where they fit not for me thanks !!!
If it was in place of the fogs as the newer models are then maybe i could justify it maybe ???.
I'm a enginneer by trade, we upgrade our product at work but we would use the same framework but change the parts ie lights ensuring that the new parts would fit the old framework saving money on keeping the framework the same design and sizes. I was hoping it would have been a quick mod to enhance the car but hey ho cant win them all.

I have recently bought the same car on an 07 plate and have retro-fitted the xenons without issue.

In total it cost me £95 for parts and labour. Work a treat and look as factory as you can ask...I don't see any difference. These headlights have a reflecter and so the light is shined out of the smaller bulb holder within the headlight just like the factory ones are. If you are located near berkshire let me know. If not pm me and I will send you further details and I'm sure somebody near you can fit.

Well worth the upgrade that's for sure.

I'm guessing you bave fitted a HID kit?Do you have auto levelling for the headlights? Headlamp washers?

It is illegal to fit xenons into light units designed for halogens.

I was under the impression you needed headlight levelling, but the c class does have a manual switch to do this on the dash.

Not 100% sure of the legality, but there are so many out there and they are not a cheap knock off look on the merc, they look totally factory and the reflector ensures the beam is not spread in every direction but is contracted as the factory one would be. Should be no problem come MOT time.

Do a search here and you will find many threads discussing the legalities. The levelling must be automatic, controlled via sensors on the suspension not by the dash vacuum control. This wouldn't work with OE xenons as they are electrically levelled.

To do it properly ( OEM w204 xenons , sensors , washers etc ) will cost thousands , not £95.

When I fitted genuine MB xenons to my S211 it was a simple job to remove the automatic leveling actuators from the xenons and replace them with the original electric ones from the halogens to retain the dash adjustment.

Well done for going the OE route (which was the main thrust of my post). The C class came with vacuum operated levelling for the halogen lights and electric (with suspension sensors) for xenons, which is why I said the halogen levelling wouldn't work with xenons.

Thanks for all the info, I think I'll wait for a retro fit kit.
But I have seen a kit on Ebay with the DLR's and the fogs as one unit thou !!!

The levelling works on mine so that is good enough for me.

I am not interested in spending thoushands doing the job...if wanted to do that i would have waited for a car with factory xenons...the mod does the job just fine for me, i have done this in past with previous mercedes and have no probs with mot etc also.

Hi Whitenemisis

Can you help? My xenons on a 2003 clk 55 amg conv come on dip(correctly) then rise up high?? how can they be adjusted down?
I have no adjustment in the cockpit either.

If it works for you then that's great. From a purely personal point of view I wouldn't give my insurance company any opportunity to cancel my insurance because of an illegal modification.

You need to get the car on STAR and check the auto-leveling values from the sensors. Sounds as if one may have come adrift?
