difference

hi all am new to this forum!i was wondering if any1 could help me and tell me the difference between avantgaurde and classic and ele as am about to buy a a 170 se avantgarde for my wife and i dont really know alot about merc's i will also drive it now and again and as am used to driving sports...

Anyone know how to spot the difference between the two, any visual clues?

The difference i am referring to is the bodywork, from pictures ive seen the 400E wings look wider than that of a normal W124, as do the rear arches. is this the case? i was thinking that because the 400E is an american car it may be wider and have a wider track.
