It is slightly more comforting to see that MB cars are suffering the similar problems to their vans.Had my 108 cdi(2000)vito serviced 2 weeks ago then told that the head has to come off to replace the glow plugs(it could run into thousands). I have not had it done, but when i picked it up the engine would not rev over 3000 revs.(safe mode apparently)but it was ok when it was taken in for the service? very hard to stomach! what can i do?

Firstly check all the connections around the engine bay.

The glow plugs are not really needed on a direct injection engine so you can leave them if you wish.
The glowplug fault will not be the cause of the limp home mode, that is a different, possibly service related, issue.

One of our 108cdi's went in for a service and had exactly the same problem when we got it back. Turned out to be a pipe disloged near the base of the windscreen. It was something to do with turbo pressure or something and took 30secs to sort.
