Today I bought an EE Buzzard 2 car wifi thingy, which plugs directly into a 12v power socket, and transmits a 4G wifi signal. Perfect for our caravan, or so I thought!

I tried to plug it in to both of the 12v sockets in the caravan, only to find that the "nose" is too long on the plug meaning that the positive contact touches the back of the socket before the negative contacts engage. :wallbash:

Not to worry, I'll try it in the three 12v sockets in the car (W164 ML) only to find that the plug was to wide, and couldn't be pushed into the socket at all!

:wallbash:

Any bright ideas other than buy a multi-gang style 12v socket which is the right size?

If I can't sort it, I hope EE will cancel the contract and refund the device cost!

i had similar problems with my now very old blackberry charger, it kept popping out, i ended up buying this.

which does fit perfectly

i hope your EE device just has a normal USB port to charge it and not some propriety 12v adaptor style plug, and you can run an USB cable from the charger to the EE device

Thanks boeken. The EE device is a single unit including the 12v plug:

EE were really good. I called back into the same store today, and showed them a 12v USB plug I have so they could compare it to the EE Osprey wifi/mifi device. They scratched their head too, as it is a slightly different size!

To EE's credit though the guy in store said that as I have a 12v USB plug which we know fits, he would exchange it for the rechargeable wifi/mifi device (which is 2.5x more expensive) and I can recharge it through the 12v USB plug :thumb:

A very practical, and generous resolution to the problem, so top marks to EE. I'm actually connected using it right now :thumb:

I've got one of those with a similar problem, that it won't fit in the front socket, so it has to be plugged in the back.
