These must be desperate times for some MB dealers, what else can explain such outdated practices?

Mrs looking for a used SLK to replace hers, spotted a competitively priced one on AUC site so called in. Car was advertised late Thursday afternoon, spoke to some girl first thing Friday and sold already but they have others exactly the same for 30% more.

I think he is suggesting that the cheap SLK may have never existed in the first place, ie it was simply a bait to attract people who are looking to buy an SLK, then try and sell them an expensive one... of course we will never know for sure.
