1997 SLK 230 Indicator issue

Hi

The girlfriends SLK has just developed an indicator fault - both left and right indicators only light up at front - The rears are not working - including when using the hazard warning lights - The little bulb light on the dash is showing confirming an issue - I ahvent checked teh bulds yet - I will be surprised if both have gone at same time but I guss its possible.

If not bulbs has anyone seen similar symptoms on an SLK/merc?

This could be a SAM related fault and a water problem, is all of the locking and alarm normal

It will probably be either the combination switch, the multifunction relay or light switch

Yep. I have seen it a few times. It is somtimes linked to the roof not working either.

The basics need to be checked first of course.

Hi thanks all for replies - I will check the basics - ie bulbs and will activate roof - open and close - Its only the rear indicators - when I lock the car on remote I notice the side indicators also flash - I guess it could be a water thing as I did wash it on Sunday - I'll take a dig in the back later - The central locking (remote) works ok

what is the PSE Pump - What is the SAM ??

Is this main dealer only or could a local specialist fix - Have used John Griffiths in Reading (not main dealer)

The PSE pump is the pneumatic system for all of the locking, in a way it is partly a SAM as it acquires signals from various parts of the car including indicators, lights and alarm.

Just get it plugged into STAR and you should know all

Hi - The indicator problem - went away and came back again and went again - something intermittent which is nice !

On 170 SLK the indicators are controlled by the multi-function ECU under the bonnet in the n/s module box, current Merc price about £509! We have replaced a few for indicator problems
