£299 for a E350cdi saloon.

Unbelievable.

I understand they even just use a sucker to get the oil out.

The going rate is indeed £200+, but shop around... some dealers are less expensive than others. And yes, this is essentially an oil and filter change plus a few basic checks (the wheels don't even come off). Whereabouts are you?

I paid £209 at Inchcape Oxford; I think all their locations are the same price.

(the wheels don't even come off).

They don't even take the wheels off on a B service anymore.

£299 for an A service is the highest I've heard of.

Paid £225 + credit card charge :dk: at Lakeside. Not that I recommend them though.

I paid £260 at MB Temple Fortune (north London) - after a supposedly 15% discount - and I thought they were the dearest around. Apparently not...

You could supply your own oil to reduce the cost.

Do you have to supply the mb specific oil sold at the dealers? Or can I get any approved oil?

Thanks momomo, but that was my last MB dealer service though :D

I since went to Olly and never looked back :thumb:

£259 from Tony Purslow Basingstoke - wasnt the most efficient job though...

As has already been mentioned, inchcape Group are £209 for an A service. Could be worth a day out somewhere (Oxford perhaps?) and have the service done while you do a bit of sightseeing?

Hey Mark, yes ive read a post before where i know you've recommended Olly. And i have to agree, cant do better than Olly when it comes to servicing and getting your car looked after.

I was actually giving the OP the suggestion to take his own oil, to reduce some of the cost of the service. We all know how much they charge for the oil at dealerships.

bizarre isn't it but the newer the car, the less likely there is to be a problem. However newer cars get charged more for servicing.

As a DIY oil changer I know just how easy it is to do an oil/filter. It really hurts to pay this kind of money for what is 15min work.

The only reason I'm doing this is the car is new and needs warranty. I will go off the main dealer system as soon as warranty is up

Most dealers (not just MB) offer reduced-cost servicing after 3 years and/or after 6 years. The idea is to attract owners with older vehicles that still want to have the service book fully stamped by main dealer - though not at any cost.

You need to remember that the cost of service goes mostly towards for the dealership fixed cost and general overhead - the direct cost is relatively low (i.e. staff salaries).

At this point it is down to them to decide how this overhead is shared between customers. Customers with newer cars - many of whom believe they are a captive audience because they want to persevere the warranty - pay more, while those will older car who are less likely to have their vehicle serviced by a dealer will pay less.

Airlines do this all the time...

yeah, I suppose Joe Bloggs would have no sympathy. If you can afford a new E and all that. However at least we all know when we are being ripped off
