2002 W203 220CDI Fuel consumption problem

My W203 C220 CDI is smoking and doing about 23MPG, can anyone advice on what the issue could be.

It used to do between 16 and 17MPG, until about a month ago when smoking started and the consumption went high.

It has not lost power at all.

How clean are the air filter and egr

I just changed the Air cleaner a month ago when doing the normal regular service. I will having the EGR cleaned today.

I also had the fule injectors checked and changed one two weeks ago, but still cant achieve the 26MPG to 30MPG as before.

i tend to think that whatever reason the car is smoking is the cause of high fuel consumption as well. If it gets sorted, then i should be sorted 100%.
