2003 w203 breather hose problem

So I bought my w203 cheap knowing that there were a couple of minor problems. One of them is ye olde breather hose which seems to affect the majority of these cars (ECL, all cylinders showing misfire and rough idle)

After much reading up on the issue I see that there is/was a service campaign in the US and Canada where Mercedes will fix the issue for you replacing two different hoses - The campaign number is 2008020002

My question is did this ever get carried over to the UK?

I don't mind doing the work myself for the sake of about £10 as it seems only the top hose that needs replacing but if Mercedes will do it for me that would be preferable.

Split breather hose shows a air mass sensor fault, misfire to various cylinders usually means timing chain/tensioner fault.

MAF has been changed and that removed one fault. Now it's O2 and all cylinders misfiring. No perceived loss of power just bad idle usually after 15 mins driving.

Split hose shows a maf fault, I'd doesn't mean the maf is faulty, they don't fail on the 271 engine, also check your cam magnet and lambda sensor plug for oil contamination.

Lambda is getting swapped this weekend if I get a spare few hours. Will report back.

M271 in the UK still suffer from split hose, so seems like whatever recall they had in the US didn't happen in UK.

Bit slow on getting back on this one. I removed the air intake and lo and behold - split hose. Not having a spare to hand I cut the hose (about 1.5 inches off) and reattached, cleared the code and it all seemed okay.

This morning on my way to work - Boom! CEL, misfire. switched engine off and back on and continued to work with no further incident.

Idle is a lot better but can still be a bit rough.

So my question here... Will shortening the hose cause any problems? The inside looked pretty bad so I'll get it fully replaced with a new one later in the week. Will being perished cause a problem? I'm guessing that being perished it could be leaking elsewhere on the tube but not as visible as the gaping hole that was there...?

There is another hose hidden behind the supercharger that perishes.
It can be changed without removing the sc but it is a pain and it is just as quick removing the sc to change the hose. Less painful too.

Gah! Brilliant lol.

The codes I'm getting have gone down to just P301 now (Don't get any misfires if I disconnect the MAF so I think it's definately a vacuum issue).

By cutting off about an inch and a half of the hose I've had to stretch the hose to get it to reach the nozzle. I'm guessing this will shrink the diameter of the inside of the hose and restrict airflow which I'm sure would cause issues in itself. I've ordered the replacement hose now and will fit that first. Hopefully it will just be that the pipe is beyond a simple snip repair. It should arrive before the weekend so I'll update once I've replaced it.

Thanks again everyone for the advice :) Just have to get it through the MOT and I'm guessing with the MAF disconnected the emissions will fail.

Been a while but thought I would give an update. Went out and bought the new hose for the top instead of the cut one that was in place. Things seemed better at first but after a while get the same issue. Not quite so bad now. Drives okay, CEL comes on randomly (About 20 mins in around town). CEL will go away after a while. Still getting rough idle at times but much better than before. Disconnecting MAF stops the issues but leaves the CEL on.

Will check the lower hoses when I get a spare couple of hours. Also going to change one of the O2 sensors and possible
