2017 Honda Civic Type R

Hondas are well built and designed. My Dad has a 2003 Honda Stream 2 litre VTEC with a mere 57k kms on it. It's used mostly in town and looked after, but the engine and 5 speed transmission is as sweet as pie. Nothing has broken or gone wrong. And it still feels solid. Mightily impressive.

They just don't break. I put 150k on my first one in 5 years (B18 engine), most of it spent at warp speed. Needed nothing beyond routine servicing.

I know of one EP3 which has suffered horrific abuse and is still going at over 200k. It went unserviced for a 60k period, just kept topping up the oil every few thousand.

I've only had one Honda car, (plenty of Bikes) and this was it - just sold it in fact because I was made an offer I couldn't refuse!

2000 Honda Accord Coupe V6 Vtec Auto. Built in the States. And on paper quicker than the new Type-R.... ;) (It was scary!).

I've always been a fan of Honda engines, their old V6s were really smooth and great when accompanied by a manual gearbox. I've had several over the years, and better-half had a 4-cylinder Honda engine , all taken to 100+,000 miles with absolutely nothing needed other than routine servicing. However, some of their engines' torque curves and the cars' lower gearing don't really suit my use but I'd be interested to know whether the turbo is better; I suspect it is.

However, I find some Japanese styling to be 'challenging' but the Type R might look better, to me, in black.

Interestingly the video didn't go so far as to compare the car's handling...
I'd imagine there would be no fun at all to be had with most of them, except the Ford, with (artificial) oversteer, and maybe the AMG. It seems to be broadly praised for it's balanced handling.

The rest, I suspect will be just underwhelming understeerers..

not really a gamble as the car is the same for the world, plus Yanks love manual gearbox cars.
A gamble based on the fact that it is the fastest FWD car around the Nring is one of its selling points when all of its competition is now 4x4. I will assume the niche market that buys this type of car will always keep the genre alive.

I have just come back from a two month business trip from the USA. I did not see one new Honda Civic (Washington DC , Maryland, Chesapeake, Choptank River area) I'm sure they are out there somewhere.

But they have to be out there in (relative) numbers to make the grade, and bring home the bacon ££.

Honda Civic Type R 2017 sets stunning new Nurburgring lap record

I would definitely buy a Honda Civic because it’s the quickest whatever around the ‘ring.

This is because when I’m stuck on the North Circular in traffic or going around in circles in Brent Cross car park I can pretend to be something I’m not!!

Oh dear - pinched a nerve have we...lol...lol...lol... :D

But then again I suppose it's the same reason you bought a "996"... ;)

Horrible looking cars standard or R. Definitely too much crap stuck on them and just an awful look to start with.

There was a red/black one near me from new with some old bloke driving it. He looked like a tit in it.

However, I don't care what other people think and I buy what I like/want so good luck with it!

I’m not a hater of the new Civic, but for the money there are far better cars you could buy. So with a full spec the cars £37k. If it were my cash ignoring a nearly new RS3 a BMW M6 Gran Sports would be sitting on my driveway.
