2017 Honda Civic Type R

I’m not a hater of the new Civic, but for the money there are far better cars you could buy. So with a full spec the cars £37k. If it were my cash ignoring a nearly new RS3 a BMW M6 Gran Sports would be sitting on my driveway.

In fact looking at leasing prices the RS3 and Civic are very similar in price. Audi giving big discounts or is the Civic going to tank?

Just so this thread doesn't die....
The speed of a wrong-wheel-drive car around ANY track, not just the Ring, is of no interest whatsoever to the enthusiast who wants a car with some kind of "driving reward"...

The reason why RWD cars are satisfying to chuck-around is that you get a handling repatoire, not just understeer or more understeer. The speed at which this balancinng of front and rear grip occurs is really not so important, because even the most middling saloon car these days can "go fast" around corners, it's the crontrol at the limit or lack of it, that sets a desirable car apart from one you buy but hate every mile you drive it...
 
Chap at work has taken me out in his. Very capable but you could feel how hard it was working to keep 300bhp from lighting up the front wheels.

I guess it looks good if you like that kind of thing.

My daily is a 2014 Golf GTD that we have had since new and I honestly find it the most engaging real road car to drive quickly. It’s small, manual, loads of torque and with the XDS diff thingy it’s an absolute hoot to drive. And I’m comparing this to an XFR (spires upgraded), 535d remapped, a 2017 GTR Oh and a Tesla 90D. The only car I prefer to punt is my mates Aston V8 Vantage manual convertible, but you cannot use it as a daily.

The XDS diff gives you so much confidence without understeer, where I can take roundabout faster that I would dare in the XFR or 535d

I do sign up to the wrong wheel drive having had copious amounts of R5 turbos, Escort RSs etc back in late 90s but the latest FWD editions are really really good. And currently with Conti Winters on it, it’s unstoppable, with a hint of lift of oversteer on the limit, Lol

Warm engine, drain old oil, change the filter, refill with fresh oil every year. Not hard to do and is best practice.

Just topping up over a prolonged period and mileage is risky. You got away with it, but in some cases the old oil turns into a gel and can't then be pumped around the engine. In addition, the base number of the oil deteriorates during use, resulting in reduced corrosion protection. Just topping up, doesn't contribute enough fresh additive package to restore this.

a new full spec Type R GT is £34k including a 5 year service plan.

Can you imagine the conversation, potential customer sees the back of the car for the first time:

Car salesman: "what do you think of the back?"
Customer: hesitates, pauses..."well, I don't know, it doesn't quite look right..."
Car salesman: "what do you mean? what don't you like?"
Customer: "well, I don't think it looks striking enough, I think I would prefer it if I could have one more spoiler on top of that."

"Deliberately-ugly" cars have been sales successes before, look how many Nissan Jukes they've sold.

It's little wonder that there are so many collisions on British roads when the kind of partially sighted person that likes the look of a Juke is allowed on our roads...

if you must select all the pointless dealer fit carbon fibre accessories, your price inflates by £4k.

A full spec car from the factory remains under £34k.
