Hello,

When driving my car carefully (normal driving) I sometimes get a jerk like its changing gear; but its quite harsh.

I know this isn't water in the oil as I had the glycol (sp) test at a MB main dealer.

I heard that maybe its the TCU (transmission control unit) but was wondering if anyone has a definitive answer? or a way of finding out the cure/cause?

Thanks!

Adam

Hi Adam, welcome to the forum.

If you're sure its not a glycol issue then the next port of call is to check the fluid level in the gearbox. Also get it plugged in on STAR to see any codes it throws up.

If the car has never had its ATF and filter changed i would do this regardless. You will definitely notice am improvement.

The "jerk" is a C32 trait, seems to affect them all - typically 1500rpm - and coincides with lock up point of the torque converter on light throttle.

There was some excitement a few years ago as it was thought that the early cars benefitted from a TCU upgraded that was fitted as standard to later cars.

Sadly it seems to affect all cars from the earliest to the last of the line.

Still a superb car though!!

I don't know if you have five or seven speed trany, but this is the Star info for 5 Speed. Hope it help.

Bobby is right. One way to find out is to manual go into second and lightly accelerate. If you notice a jerk around 1500 rpm and it hasn't changed gear count your lucky stars because its normal.

i had the GB fluid changed and filter and still noticing the jerk , if its something to do with the torque conv clutch , what do I do to remedy this.

The TC can be re-furbished.

A rebuilt torque converter with a lifetime warranty is approx £250.00+vat if you need anymore info let me know
