230e Spark Plug Gaps and more.

like to fit new spark plugs inexperenced DIYer have plugs & spanner. No haynes or prior knowledge .230TE. Also occasional loud knock from front end car handles fine and oil on inside lid of air filter almost forgot the list goes on a tick tick sound from engine comes in then goes again with revs. Tappets? If anyone could help with any of these.Cheers.

Not sure about the spark plug gaps but fitting should be straightforward.

Loud knock will be the anti-roll bar drop links. easy job. Rock the car violently from side by holding the roof gutter to side to test. Have someone inside the car listening for noise.
If not these then suspension balljoints.

Oil in air filter. Some is to be expected but it indicates a little ring blow by and possibly partially blocked breather which the squirts once enough pressure.

Ticking from tappets. If it was me I would flush the engine with flushing oil, ensuring it all drained out well afterwards, then refil with a good oil before condemning the tappets.
Hydraulic tappets usually stick because oil cant find it's way in due to a blockage.

Mr haynes says, 0.8 mm gap for the plugs.
